People were arguing about Eminem as a rapper and a lot of posts ended up getting moderated and deleted. Because of this, a GS Moderator came into the thread and locked it.

I never got to say anything in that thread but my opinion so the album is its absolute garbage. Em's pretty good on it but the production of it is horrible. Beats are bad and hooks are bad, eminem now thinking he can sing is bad, its just all bad.

I have no idea why everybody is loving it so much

beats did start to sound too similar as it went on, but were good for the most part.

my only gripe is the hooks. but its a big one.  i listened to this about 4 times now and em singing really holds this back from being great.

My OCD wont allow me to listen to his music and not think about the way he disses Chris Reeves for no reason. Such a scum bag thing to do.

'Bout to finish first listen. Enjoyed it overall. I don't like most of the choruses, including those not by Eminem. What kind of annoys me more than that, though is that all the songs follow pretty much the same structure which makes the production sound even more repetative to me.

Overall very good, though.

Edit:

His singing on You're Never Over is so out of place it's completely hilarious, though. Oh dear.

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Great album. Here's how I'd put it...

Lyrics - 9/10... he finally came around and started talking about a variety of subjects AND the whole Proof thing, instead of playing that "I'm a killer" crap, and he addressed most subjects with great wordplay and lyricism. there are weak songs, but for the most part, the lyrics are really good imo.

Beats - 8/10... they're good, but nothing special, and very few stand out to me. there are only two songs that I like primarily because of the beat.

Flow/Delivery/Charisma/whatever - 9/10... he hit every track with energy, sounded hungry as hell and his flows were just top notch. there were times where he'd be... anti-climactic (no homo ? and throw his flow off for some reason, but for the majority of the album his presence and all that was excellent.

Hooks - 8/10... when they are good, they really work well with the song, but when they are bad... i just don't understand what he was going for. that being said, there are more good hooks than bad ones imo. that singing really can't be justified, and he needs to realize when it's bad.... it was alright on Cold Wind Blows and ignorable on Talkin' 2 Myself, but then on You're Never Over, he really dragged that song down a lot with the first part of the hook. like i said, though, when they are good, they really are. Love the Way You Lie, for example, is effing amazing hook-wise, as are 25 to Life and Almost Famous... he needs to rely on other people to sing his hooks. there were some in the gray area that weren't really good or bad, but not many...

Overall, I'd give it around a 8/10... em delivered on the rapping side and chose good beats, but he could have done a better job rooting out filler, choosing hooks and who to have sing them, and making the album flow better... the album really just sounds like a collection of some really good songs imo...

Anyway, even if people wouldn't put it that high ^, I think this is a clear indication that Em is on the upswing. On Relapse, he ditched the stupid songs and weak rhyming that were present on Encore, and now on this he's ditched the accent, bland subject matter, and repetitive flows that were present on Relapse... it seems that he's realizing what isn't good and changing it, so i'm very pumped for the next Em album...

... How are the hooks pop? That's the last way I would describe them...... and even if that is an apt description for them, that doesn't mean he is going for the "14 year old girl market" with this album. No song on here even remotely seems like something one would record and go "hey, I think 14 year olds would love this!" That's not to say that these songs wouldn't appeal to people of that age/gender match, but rather that it's clear that he did not record these songs with the intention to please that audience and that these songs simply are not ones that would appeal primarily or even strongly to that audience...

I'm not one of the defend Anti-Venom but this dude knows his Eminem...Recovery is what any Eminem fan could ask for. Moving away from the stupidity of Relapse, using a lyrical formula he's used for ages, and modernizing it with more moden production and song structure.

It's not one of his greatest albums, in fact it's his fourth best I'd say, but it's still a great album in its own right.

As an Em fan, Recovery is not what I asked for . . . hooks are awful, dude still has stupid punchlines, and the whole album screams "conform!!!!!!!" but still, it's a step up from that trash Relapse.

Toriko is 100% right here... How are you going to say that someone wasn't a Em fan before this album simply because they didn't think the hooks were bad/on here to appeal to 14 year old girls (lol)? Eminem was one of the first rappers I REALLY liked, and SSLP and MMLP are two of my most listened to albums, with TES getting regular listens as well, and I like this album quite a bit. Some of the hooks didn't appeal to me, but they were not horrible like everyone is trying to act they are. There are like 5 hooks that fall short, which isn't that many at all. And even if you do consider that a hefty amount, everything else about this album makes up for those shortcomings. This isn't as good as his first 4 albums, but it's 10x better than Relapse and Encore and is a good album in its own right. Very, very solid album and a great return to form for Em.

If Eminem can take lyrical content like this, bring back hardedge production like that of the SSLP and MMLP and keep his hooks in more competant hands or keep it simple with himself, we've got a cIassic for his next album

LOL it's good for being better than that trash Relapse? Relapse was one of the worst albums i've ever heard. And how can you say it's what any Eminem fan could ask for? As an Eminem fan all I could want out of a new Em album is for it to sound like, well, Eminem. This album doesn't sound like Em at all. Hooks with Pink and Rihanna? Eminem singing? Really? What happened to "Well If I could sing I'd keep singing this song for my daughter" "I can't sing...oh well, I tried" Em? Did he just completely lose his mind and forget that he's not good and has no business singing? Where's Dre? An Eminem album without a single Dre beat? Do you even remember Infinite, SSLP, MMLP? Even Eminem Show and Encore? That's Em's sound and style. This album is not Em's style at all, IDK how you can deny it. And as an Em fan this album fails hard.

I think Relapse was so terrible that standards were just dropped way too low. Everything about this album other than a few of his bars is terrible.

P.S. Maybe not 14 year old girls...but I've seen more "Way you Lie" music videos being linked on facebook by high school girls followed by a bunch of hearts than any other song by Eminem ever. No denying he's trying to reach a different fanbase with this one.

P.S.S. And Haddaway samples on songs featuring Lil Wayne? AHHHHHH so much fail in this album...

You sound like a classic fail fan tbo. You just want the artist to do the same thing over and over and over again. You'll never get that man. Partially because some artists can't and/or don't want to. I'm happy Em is trying something different and this is better than encore and relapse which says a lot. It's amazing to see Em completely humbled on his tracks. It's a side of him I've never really seen, so to me that's new and exciting. And how can you blame Em for Blaze's beat? Not only that, but it's actually really good. Taking something like that and flipping it is fun to listen to. This album obviously isn't your Marshall Mathers LP but this should be clear to everyone that he'll never be in a state of mind like that again. He's isn't a new up and comer anymore. He isn't battling his wife and mom over the same issues anymore. It's not gonna happen haha. Quit holding on and waiting for Marshall Mathers LP 2 because the only way you'll get that is if Em throws away his care for the art form and fakes it and he is anything but fake.

this was supposed to be a serious song about Proof but you just can't help but laugh at how bad that hook is

"Living without youuuuu"

I love the 2nd verse on the song though

Em always sounds so dope live, I need to see him in concert next time he goes on tour.

Me too, hope he comes to Montreal when I move there in September

I thought Eminem was banned from playin in Canada? I might be wrong though...its just somthing I remember friends saying.

I never see tickets for any of his shows here...Toronto anyway

really? I'm jealous.  What shows did you see that you really liked.  I have never disliked a concert I have been to and always think they are kickass.
