Prince gives away new album...

Prince's last album sold 80,000 in the U.K. total; this one already reached 3 Million people in ONE WEEK!!! The deal he inked with the newspaper was more profitable for him then his normal album deal. The Mail saw a 600,000 sale surge because of the free album in last weeks issue. Prince gets it...others will too, the industry is gonna change FINALLY. Though I must say...this is gonna be harder on newer artist initialy, but I think the internet promotion is gonna help.

im gonna say no, because if somebody wanted an album, and they wanted it free, they have the entire internet to download it from....

Thats fantastic, but not likely to happen too much more and if it does it'll be something lame and extremely PG I think.

I don't think the people that still listen to Prince, know how to use computers for that purpose, so...ur wrong

I think you're taking it too far with the generalizations WGE. Prince has been around since the 80s, I'm assuming those people know how to use the computer....

Im just saying...you asked if it would become a new industry standard and make it so artists sell more records...and im saying I dont think it will help sell more records because if somebody wanted the album bad enough they could always just download it for free in the first place...they dont need to have it handed to them for free....

if people got to go to work our school they will more then likely pass a magazine shop on the way there (remember this is an all week thing too)...not too mention newstands will have it as well...and even if some fans do not pick up a copy, people who wouldn't normally buy the album in the first place would balance that out. Prince reached 3 million people in one week...his last album only sold 80,000 in the U.K. and the newspaper distributing this saw a 600,000 spike in number of issues bought. People may download, but honestly, there is no justification for it when your can get it for free now anyway.
