"If it ain't broke don't fix it. If you start to break it then people aren't going to go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
-Noel Gallagher of the rock band Oasis
Jay-Z was chosen as the headliner for this year's Glastonbury Music festival, which usually draws an audience of over 150 thousand fans, and there was controversy as to how a rap act would appeal to the crowd. Jay-Z had a lot of supporters ranging from Usher to Chris Martin of Coldplay to the event organizer Emily Eavis sticking by her choice of Hov, but still there was a lot of controversy, critics, and doubt over the selection of Jay-Z.
Lupe Fiasco's speech at Glastonbury 2008 yesterday
Well the festival has been going on this weeked and it looks like the controversy was for nothing. It's obvious hip-hop has a place at the festival judging by the crowd's reaction to Lupe's speech and the entire crowd chanting "Lupe! Lupe! Lupe!" at the end of his set. Even if you don't like Lupe or Jay-Z, hip-hop definitely got a win at this music festival. Hip-hop is worldwide.
