I went to see the roots last night (sydney aus) and it was crazy how good they were... the first time i had seen them but friends of mine had seen them before and they all saidhow good they were...

the girl i went with said it was the best show shes been too... im not sure ive been to heaps of good shows, but they would be in the running... anyway just wondering what other are the best live performers people have seen?

i saw gza and dj muggs last year and that was something for the fans... signed everything... rapped for like 2 and a half hours

dizzy rascal (english rapper) ripped the mic when i saw him a few years ago... better live than on cd

saul williams ... backpacker type... smartest rapper i ever heard speak (does like def poetry stuff as well), never heard of him before i got a free ticket, after the show i went to a question and answer thing he gave n brought his cd he was that good

methodman and redman did there thing so well you could tell they have been doin it for years... stayed back and signed everything too

mos def and dj shadow last year... mos def talks heaps with the crowd and is heaps entertaining while dj shadow has crazy laser show

but yeah black thought is a machine, he ripped everything.... as well as  guesto, the bassist and guitarist... 2 hours plus makes them hard to beat

anyone else? anyone really bad?

lyrics born is awesome live especially with his band.  he get the crowd pumped, on par with his albums, such great energy

the roots are just hardcore live.

brother ali is mad crazy live. he is raw.

i saw kweli is cool live but i feel he yells too much in his mic.  cant hear him to well.

at the first paid dues murs and slug had it crackin when the did felt and when they had technical difficulties with the sound they preformed acapella with the crowd singing the chorus.

those are some i could think of right now.  cant wait for rock the bells

Common put on an amazing show...though I don't have much to compare it to since it was my first hip-hop show. It was in a college auditorium so we had assigned seats, but the DJ told everyone to rush to the stage once Common came on. After his first song ("Be") security turned on the lights and told everyone to go back to their seats. Common wasn't happy that security wouldnt' turn the lights back off, so he started freestyling about how security isn't always out for the people's best interests and ended it screaming "**** THE POLICE!!" it was absolutely amazing to hear him freestyle live. He gets hype as hell, after the last verse of his last song "It's Your World" he picked up a drumstick and went crazy on the drumset with his live drummer for a 10 minute instrumental, absolutely awesome :) I'll be going to my second hip-hop show in a few weeks (on 4/20 :) ) for a free De La Soul concert

I saw them several years ago along with Biz Markie. It was pretty fun..but the best show I've seen is either DJ Shadow or Qbert. Having seen Common as your first hip-hop show is pretty awesome, I'd really like to see him live; The Roots too. The first show I went to was Tag Team! (I was pretty young..)

jurassic 5 could really rock a stage when they were together, they really seemed to know how to move the crowd.

im an ex pat new zealander too a im biased to them but theyve been doing hiphop since the 80's... lots of good underground stuff ... scribe, p money (producer dj guy) and the decpetaconz ive seen live here in sydney and that was crazy... but the place was full of newzealanders so yeah everyone was drunk and knew what they were getting

Scribe is a legend! :)
You should check out some Clandestien and Art Of War. Those are the two best aussies groups imo and they're (especialy Clandestien) up there with virtually any american if not any of them!

Wait, wait, wait...  The De La Soul show is free?  They're going to be here Monday, I wonder if that's the same case.  I'd really like to go but it's at a very small venue...  I'm sure the place would be slammed by the time I could get there but De La Soul would be an amazing show, I'm sure.  I know this show is sponsored by Scion or something like that.

I liked Dilated Peoples and Little Brother a few years ago, because of both groups' energy, but mostly because of Babu's amazing turntable skills.

I loved The Roots at Radio City Music Hall w/ a bunch of guests like Slum Village, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Bilal, etc. (which they all backed). The only bad things were my seats, the fact that I was tired as hell that day, and the fact that there were so many sets. By far the best set was The Roots'. I wish I could've gone to a Roots show with only an opening act or two or one or two guests.

My favorite show ever was my second Tower of Power and Average White Band concert, which isn't hip hop, but they are both incredible.

I've also seen Conrad Herwig with Eddie Palmieri and a Stanley Jordan solo concert, which were both great but not hip hop too.

Can anyone vouge for Prince Paul?  He's going to be here Friday and I've never heard an album of his but I still think I could have a good time at the concert if he puts on a good show.

Wow, I saw these two group together as well. It was an instore performance, and they did an entire set, it was sweet. Only like 100 people there and they loved the fans so we really got a good show.

Price Paul is cool. He was in Stetsasonic first, then he produced the early De La Soul albums, was in the Gravediggaz with RZA in the mid 90's, then had a great album called "A Price Among Thieves" in the late 90's. He made a few cameos on the White Rapper Show too recently. He's a producer/DJ.

De La Soul- "Me Myself and I"

De La Soul- "A Rollerskating Jam Called Saturday"

Gravediggaz- "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide"

Yeah Prince Paul is one of my favourite producers. He produced a couple of tracks for It's a Big Daddy Thing. 3 Feet High and Rising & De La Soul Is Dead are my favourite examples of his work.
