I was watching Brown Sugar earlier and I forgot how much I really enjoyed that movie. Using Hip Hop as a way to define the relationshipsbetween the characters and how they live their lives out. It was dope imo.

So I was wondering, what are some of your favorite Hip Hop movies? What do you think of some of the other movies that have come out and not done so well? Just generally, what are your thoughts on the matter of Hip Hop movies?

I think the only two "hip hop" films I've seen are Next Friday and some Basketball film where the dude couldn't do jump shots. But wtf everyone can do jump shots! :S

Wait, I don't think that was even a hip hop movie.

Yeah, Hustle and Flow was dope. So was 8 Mile. I thought Get Rich Or Die Tryin was garbage too. I don't consider they Friday movies to be Hip Hop movies, just comedies.

Second Juice, a damn damn good movie, with or without the hip-hop qualifier. You always hear about how good Tupac is in that movie, and when I watched it, he seemed pretty silly in the first half of it but he really became a menacing, fascinating character once the story got up on its feet. I really need to see Gridlock'd and Above the Rim. Haven't really seen many hip-hop movies, though. 8 Mile, yeah, though I must say I do like that a lot. It's a legitimately strong movie and performance by Eminem.

Yet it has a ridiculously thin plot.

Generally, they all do. 8 Mile...muhhh, Im pretty sure that was glorified somehow.

Nobody mentions Prison Song? That movie was awesome. Fat Joe gets murdered by Q-Tip, and he ends up in jail, and his mother's somehow Mary J Blige.
