Earlier this week on Bill O'Reilly's daily Fox News show, the O'Reilly Factor, the Humane Society blamed DMX, Jay-Z and hip-hop for promoting dog-fighting culture in America. Recently, NFL player Michael Vick, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly participating in a dog-fighting ring. Surprisingly, John Goodwin, manager of animal fighting issues for the Humane Society, drew a connection between Vick's case and hip-hop. "The growth in dog fighting has been largely fueled by some elements in the popular culture, specifically some rap videos," Goodwin told O'Reilly. "For example, there is a rapper named DMX. He has a CD named Grand Champ. There is a big pit-bull on the cover and the booklet that comes with the CD describes a champion as a three time winner of dogfights. There is Jay-Z, who had a music video called "99 Problems." The unedited version had scenes of him handling a dog in a dog fighting pit."

Only a douche like Bill O'reiley would associate something that has NOTHING to do with rap music into a rap music debate.

Also, if Mike Vick were white, I GUARANTEE O'Reiley would never connect it to rap. He's a racist, idiotic bigot.

Bill O'riely might be a racist. But even if Vick were white what he allegedly did to dogs would have been brought up by bill O'riely anyways. But why are they blaming rap dosn't make sense.

I hate to play the race card but it's true, if Michael Vick was white, NOTHING about rap music would be said. Period.

not true at all...look at VTech...people blamed rap music for the popularity of the type of guns the killer used, but the killer was almost excursively a classic rock fan and was not black. People will blame rap for anything. This actually has more merit then most of the other claims. While rap didn't exactly promote this type of behavior, it was mos def present in the gerne and it did not denouce it one bit. Urban areas have seen the most sigficicant growth for this dog fighting stuff...rap, as a supposed reflection of urban america, has shown that to some respect, but like the rest of the things rap reflects about urban society, it kinda is golrified by some, esp DMX.

of course, gun violence was around before NWA, drugs were around be Jeezy and Rick Ross, etcetera, but that doesn't make it okay to glorify the behavior. The urban areas of America is the place were the most growth is seen with dog fighting, and DMX and others reflected that, but did so in a positive way. Glorification is the only argument that naysayers have against hip-hop that is completely valid, this dog fighting thing falls directly under that. So while hip-hop isn't to blame for dog fighting's existence, it sure has hell promoted it (which is what the Humane Society charged it with in the first place).

I agree with all you just said.

Its very stupid though when someone decides to diss hip hop because it did this or that and saying if hip hop wasnt around, this didnt happen...like how Dave Chappelle said with objectifying women...yeah, its happened before, its just some rap videos promoted it, but if you take them off, it doesnt get rid of it, you will still get people objectifying women. You just wont be seeing it on a lot of videos, thats all.
