to me it seems like people that listen to rap/hip hop seem to "enjoy" music more...they dont seem to be as closed minded to music as it seems everybody else is.

I dont know about you guys, but i listen to mostly rap, but im not against any music either, i listen to anything i think sounds good....i listen to a lot of rock, jazz. r&b/soul and other stuff...

But it seems that most people I deal with and see that listens to rock, or other types of music just seem so bias towards everything else....rap automatically sucks, jazz automatically sucks, techno automatically sucks etc. Everything other than rock and there genre automatically sucks...

How can one feel that way?? Its like they dont give any music a chance...before they even hear the song they just say it sucks, or its "not music" if any of you people post in the Off Topic board you see tons of this....mostly everybody only listens to rock, and they just say everything else sucks (mostly rap) There was one topic where they were trying to say blues sucked and had abosolutely nothing to do with rock music....and if you know anything about music you know blues had a little more than a little influence on rock.

Why are MOST people thats favorite genre is rock so bias against everything else?? Are you guys like that? Do you hate everything other than rap? Most people that i know of that like rap seem to like a little bit of everything....but it doesnt seem the other way around??

Am i wrong?? Anybody else seem to notice this???

From what I've seen in other forums, and at some local places I have to agree.

Yeah I noticed this too. A LOT of people view hip-hop as gangsta music ONLY, and people speaking nonsense over big bass. Of course its true as a lot of stuff in the mainstream, which is what these people see, is exactly that right now. They overlook the positives and go straight for the negatives.

Alot of people are like that... I don't bother with those types of people, they're too ignorant to convince them of anything else.

As for me, rap is definately my favorite genre. I also love Soul, R&B, some Jazz, and alot of the old motown stuff. The only genres i dislike are metal, most rock(Sorry, just never got into it... I don't "hate" rock though, just not for me) and country. Besides that I'm open minded to pretty much anything.

agreed.....I honestly dont understand how people can listen to metal....loud banging noises with some guy screaming...and then we have "death metal" which makes me question why some people are alive...ill say i "hate" metal

and yeah im not really into rock, but i do like some... i like around 15 songs, and im not gonna say it sucks as an entire genre because that would be dumb....and i dont like country...

I think Hip-Hop fans are more eclectic because Hip-Hop is so eclectic. It relies on so many genres so it's inevitable that serious Hip-Hop fans are gonna get into other genres through rap. I can't speak on rock because I barely know anything about it but it seems to me that rock fans are most definetly gonna have a hard time getting into rap for a number of reasons. The first is Hip-Hop is so misrepresented in the media that I'm not surprised a lot of rock fans dislike it. There's also the "they're not playing instruments therefore they have no creative talent" argument which would seem logical to someone who knows nothing about Hip-Hop. And maybe race comes into it too sometimes.

Actually not to seem close minded, but Hip-Hop is mainly the only genre I listen to. I love funk, jazz, raggae, and soul. But I just can't listen to Rock in any way, shape, or form. It just doesn't appeal to me, nothing personal, nothing biased. If I was biased, I would hate only one specific aspect. But all of it just doesn't appeal to me and I respect other people's taste if they decide to listen to rock. But I just don't like it. When it comes to music, you love it or you don't, from the moment you hear it. The moment I heard gangsta rap I disliked it, same thing with rock, but the moment I heard alternative hip-hop I was hooked and I've been listening ever since.

I've given rock and other genre's a chance but they just don't do it for me. I just like hip-hop and some similar genre's.

Here's a great social experiment to try. TRY THIS IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW SIMPLE MINDED PEOPLE ARE: Go to YouTube. Type in "rock sucks" in the search bar and see how many videos are about that subject, not how many based on the name relation, but how many videos are about that opinion. Now go and search "rap sucks" or "hip-hop sucks" and see how many video are soley based upon that opinion. The difference is incredible.

I kind of feel the same way. I love rap, but I'm appreciative of funk, soul, rock, classical, etc. at the same time. All the time I see rock and metal fans complain about how bad rap is, rap sucks, can't spell crap without rap, rap isn't music.... and it seems like these rap attacks far outnumber the attacks I've seen rap fans make towards rock or metal. Personally, I may not care for another genre like country, but I won't hate country or go around proclaiming how country sucks. I don't understand why all these people have a vendetta with rap, did rap hurt them or something:roll: The simplest way to understand why there is so much hate is that people hate on things that are popular, or they hate on things that they don't understand.

^^^^

I think they hate it so much because of how its so oerplayed on the radio and tv and stuff....while rock isnt played as much...so they take it personally i guess..

Its too bad the rap thats on the radio and on TV sucks incredibly though, giving most people the wrong impression on what rap/hip-hop is all about....its not about money, hoes, and being in clubs...

Side Note:

-If that song Ay Bay Bay by Hurricane Chris starts getting more popularity than it already has, i give up completely on rap ever getting good ever again in the mainstream....as time goes on i think peoples minds are deteriorating.....

I never really had to deal with anybody (excluding the forums) that was bias towards rap music. In my speech class I did a project on how rap music has made a huge impact in the history of music and how people should try to understand the genre instead of bashing it in a heartbeat.
