Who's the better rapper in your opinion?
Lets see how awful the taste in hip-hop is in this forum
Ā
Out of those 2 IT. There's at least some substance in his music whether you agree with his views or not. I'm not really big on either one though.cmpepper23immortal tech is an excellent rapper, nobody can deliver such political messages like he does. You don't have to agree with his views, but there is no rapper with better wordplay than his.
Tech.
Ā
As much as he's been overrated on the net, he still made two albums that I enjoyed and he has some really great songs. I didn't check out his latest release cus I'm not really into his material any more, but I can still listen to his earlier stuff.
welcome to OTB buddyWhy is Gucci Mane winning?Ā :?Ā Why do people have to troll polls.Ā :(

How can gucci can EVER make something as much relevant as Dance with the devil, and thats just one song. i think he did way much than gucci will ever do. lol just the name is awful, "gucci mane". oh and Tech delivers some kind of messageDrCoCoPiMpThat song's got a good story, but when would you find yourself really wanting to listen that song? I have never been in the mood to listen to IT talk about the time he brutally raped his own mother.
Gucci isn't a serious rapper, but IT is definitely a bigger clown with some of the stuff he talks about, he really tries too hard to be outrageous. IT's messages are usually only ones that a super liberal college student would entertain. Plus, he's technically pretty poor.
Gucci is just more fun to listen to.

I've listened to Dance with the devil many times, and each time, i pick up something new, it has many discrete messages that you won't catch in your first listenHe doesn't try hard, thats the kind of rapper he is, atleast have some appreciation for the messages he delivers. Not all hip-hop has to be bragadoccio and being "So Icey". There's absolutely nothing wrong with being serious, you act like the industry has an abundance of "not serious rappers" :|.
Theres nothing wrong with listening to non-serious rappers as much as there isn't anything wrong with changing the pace every once in a while for a more serious undertone. This narrow-minded thinking of yours is so unnecessary, surprised it's coming from you since we have a lot in common in terms of what we like in hip-hop you and i.
Technically pretty poor? Not only does that have NOTHING to do with anything, but here's the rest of my response, courtesy of IT himself:
100 percent independent I'm the ****in' boss
The only unsigned ninja with a quotable in the source
The hood is not stupid, we know the mathematics
I make double what I would going gold on Atlantic
And now you know, this aint a trend or a fashion
This is my life and my Passion
**** tryin to cash in, ninja!
I need more than advancements and a rented mansion
So while you little house ninjas are singin' and dancin'
I'll kill you and take your land like an Israeli expansion
The second set or lyrics can also be directed to gucci mane himself, how convenient .

I agree to an extent. I'm not saying he's bad, or that I agree or disagree with his political views. It has just been awhile since I have listened to his music so I'm not really inclined to praise him as a great rapper. I loved his music, but like many have said, I'm just not always in the mood to listen to it. Ā Ā

What I meant with Gucci about being "not serious" was that that at least I don't take him seriously. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an artist being serious, and I take almost every rapper I listen to seriously (minus like the few songs I like from Dipset, the Gucci I have, and Rick Ross, since I listen to him almost strictly for his beats). I don't even like Gucci Mane that much, I think he just gets a lot of unnecesarry hate, and I think IT is way overrated. I have never even heard "So Icey." I guess I'm never in such a serious mood that I want to listen a song as heavy as Dance with the Devil. IT is almost too serious. IT also brags quite a bit too, this isn't braggadacio rap by any means but he definitely talks himself up.IT clearly wants nothing more than to be held as the definitive aggressive and controversial emcee. He's trying to hard when he puts in completely unnecessary homophobic remarks, or makes some comment degrading women interspersed throughout his songs. If he wants to be taken seriously as an intellectual rapper, he's got to drop this type of ****. He wants to deal with controversial political ideas, which are thought-provoking but at the same time mostly ridiculous, but he just comes off as such a dumb dude when he throws some homophobic slur at the end of it all. Not only does this come off as forced and unnecessary, it hurts the song.
Ā What I meant about he being technically very poor is that his flow is pretty simple and rarely changes up much, and his voice and delivery are pretty monotone. I don't know how that doesn't matter. The dude can write and rhyme, his mechanics are just off. But, on that same topic it's not like Gucci's got a flow, or even a good voice.
EDIT: I just found that I have both the Revolutionary albums still on my computer, so I'm going to spin the first again and post my thoughts because it's been at least 2-3 since I've listened to IT.

Who else in your opinion is a cancerprobably Orlando for brainwashing OTB into liking GucciGucci!!!
After giving Revolutionary Vol. 1 two spins this afternoon, I am regretting to say that I need to change my opinion. I still think his delivery is pretty average, but this dude can rhyme. A bunch of quotables on this album, and his efforts to seem gangsta, bragging and homophobic remarks aren't as blatant and tacked as I remember. His ideas are mostly absurd, but they're interesting at least. He's definitely not the savior of the underground like a lot of people view him, but he's pretty good. Like I said, I only like Gucci somewhat and I have to say IT is a better rapper. I don't really see why they're being compared.
I think what turned me off to IT was how bad his beats were. I think that was frustrating to me, and then I would pick out little things that annoyed me on top of the beats, and I just stopped listening to him. Either way, I'll now say that IT is a better rapper.

oh dear god, you seem to have no clue on what you're talking about.I don't know where you get your idea of homophobic remarks from, because it CLEARLY isn't from IT music. What you seem to forget is that we''re discussing hip-hop here...you know...the genre that is FAMOUS for being quite homophobic :| ?
Degrading women? Have you listened to You Never Know? Have you ever heard a rapper say something like he'd wish he "could replace every raped virgin's broken hymen"? Not only do you seem to forget that women degredation is common in hip-hop music regardless, but you ironically try to come up with lame reasonings why IT wasn't as good as...well...GUCCI MANE. Yeah, he isn't any of those at all...:|
Rev 1 is his worst album. About 50% gems, 50% garbage. Who else in your opinion is a cancerLil Wayne is awful but occassionaly drops something decent, then you have the semi-rapper likes such as Soulja Boy who are awful. I'm not a fan of Young Buck either, I could imagine one of his songs coming on the radio - filtered of course, to take out the swear words, which would be 3/4 of the song, he gives rap a cancerous image.
Compared to some great artists like LL Cool J (back in the day), Rakim, the Wu tang Clan, etc, these guys are at a different level. I don't know how people even consider artists like Gucci, Buck, Soulja Boy, etc, to be classified in rap, they don't deserve that merit, they have no individual ability, no music taste despite spending millions of dollars on great production companies. Just one of the reasons why rap has been awful for a while now.
oh dear god, you seem to have no clue on what you're talking about.Like I stated before I hadn't listened to those albums in 2-3 years, and was going off of why I didn't like them from what I remembered. My memory apparently served me wrong. I thought I remembered him using excessive homophobic slurs and degraded women a lot, I'm not sure why I had gotten that impression. I think I remembered the times he goes over the top with the braggodocio stuff ("I'll beat you until you're a vegetable/and wake up in the hospital covered in poisonous chemicals/in a fetal position with your head sewn to your testicles" for example) as being littered with said slurs and degradations. I was wrong.I don't know where you get your idea of homophobic remarks from, because it CLEARLY isn't from IT music. What you seem to forget is that we''re discussing hip-hop here...you know...the genre that is FAMOUS for being quite homophobic :| ?

And I understand that rap is greatly homophobic and degrades women like no other. They reason I held it against IT is that he is clearly a smart guy, and he deals with some complex subject matter and makes great rhymes. However I don't think a rapper as intelligent as Immortal Technique needs to use homophobic slurs and degrade women, he's more clever than that and he knocks himself down a peg when he throws some slur in the song (granted he does it much more rarely than I remembered). That's why I would hold it against a rapper like IT and not Gucci, because Gucci is clearly not half as intellgent as IT.
To be honest, I don't expect nearly as much from Gucci compared what I do from an MC like IT. IT is a next level MC compared to Gucci, Gucci just makes music I find myself wanting to listen to more than IT because it's more fun.I had interpreted the thread as who makes music you listen to more often? IT is clearly a better rapper, his music just doesn't always reflect that (THe 3rd World for examples)
EDIT: I just finished Revolutionary Vol. 2, he is definitely more refined on this album than he was before. These beats are still god-awful though, so boring. He makes up for it mostly with his lyrics but some of these beats are almost song-killers, no matter what he says. You Never Know is a great track, a story that I could find myself listening to much more than Dance with the Devi. I don't remember ever hearing it before.
