When someone is hating on hip hop, what album do you reccommend they listen to?

Basically, what's the best example of GOOD hip hop?

tbh, the type of people who hate on Hip-Hop aren't gonna respond to my recomendations which I regard as "true Hip-Hop". I'd probably say De La and The Tribe, I wouldn't recommend Cube or Kool G Rap though, they'd turn their noses up at it.

It's gotta be catchy or they are not gonna like it, amatuer hip hop listeners are not looking for lyrics there looking for beats.

Word, it's not that they don't care, it's just they don't have the ear for it.

usually something like Outkast's Aquemini... it's an easy listen and catchy like Improbus stated yet it still has lyrics to back it up and it is a lot more musically progressive than other cIassic albums like Ready to Die, Illmatic, Paid in Full, or 36 Chambers.

Any rap fan that (mainly dudes) that has problems getting into Ready to Die needs to be speared with a zulu stick. Most of my friends love Life After Death.

Most of the people that I've gotten into hip hop I've shown them stuff like the Roots, ATCQ, Outkast, J Dilla, first, and then I'll introduce them to the stuff that's harder to get into.

Pretty much. Lupe as well though.

he needs examples of Hip Hop,

not this

I dont get it?

Lupe has gotten more people into rap than you can say for most if not all those people on that list.

Besides he has sick rhymes, nice beats, and catchy songs.

why is lupe looked down upon. Dude is a pretty good rapper, has decent flow, good lyrics but he gets little to know respect in OTB. I know he isn't the best and is getting madly overrated but people who know lupe and knew him throughout his 1st and 15th mixtape series you see dude is good. I'm just sayin. And WTF is a jay electronica?

I find it funny that you people are the same ones who try to defend rap music from people in the OT yet the second someone disagrees with what you're saying you act just like the OT people.

BTW, I dont like metal music, but seeing as how you limit yourself to a dying genre of music I guess you dont have much to talk about. I was asked to join this Union to express a love for hip-hop, but I can already see why this place has barely anyone posting in it; Idiotic elitists like you two above who think they know people's mucsical tastes.

You just got yourself one less person posting in this lifeless union. May this pathetic union and its pathetic people rot.

1. People here don't limit themselves only to rap. Anyone who has been a fan of rap knows that it was birthed from sampling other genres, and because of these samples, many rap listeners also listen to funk, soul, jazz, rock, etc.

2. How is rap dying? Last time I checked there are two rap albums blowing away everyone else at the top of the Billboards (Tha Carter III just outsold every other album this year by selling 1 million in the first week), not to mention an abundance of underground artists putting out amazing music too.

3. How does this union have "barely anyone" posting in it? The union got 4,000 hits alone yesterday. Based on the Top 25 Unions list, Off the Books is arguably the most active Union on Gamespot, and is a few weeks away from becoming the #1 most viewed Union on Gamespot.

4. And just for the sake of it, Lupe Fiasco did not put more people onto rap than all the other artists on that list posted earlier in this thread, as you stated. Lupe Fiasco hasn't even gone platinum once. One the other hand, artists like A Tribe Called Quest are multi-platinum, have had a #1 album, and paved the way for alternative mainstream rappers like Lupe Fiasco to succeed and even exist today.

5. Thanks.

we've been getting a rush of stannery lately...Phontigga was right:
