Heavy = best
thread = fail
I'd highly suggest Tool, Rage Against The Machine, or Incubus...it's not ridiculously heavy, or death metal, but it's not the smoother rock you're probably looking for.
Red Hot Chili Peppers ;)djwestwood
Word.
I don't listen to much rock, but my favorite rock band is Radiohead. OK Computer is a really dope album.
YOU MUST listen to The BEatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" best album of all time IMO. Also try some rage against the machine, they're metal but not heavy metal. Oh and why not try John Mayer :oops: ?Proobie44Jason Mraz > John Mayer :P
[QUOTE="iHeartCali"]Download Pennywise's album off MySpace, it's free until tomorrow....elpooz
Thats really queer...i can't download ish on this computer because its my mom's. I could have when i got back to mine, but that won't be for another 2 days.

Rage Against the Machine has some songs that are covers of old-school hip-hop songs such as:
Microphone Fiend. (Eric B. & Rakim)
I'm Housin'. (EPMD)
How I Could Just Kill a Man (my favorite) (Cypress Hill)
Most of the other suggestions people gave are good too. One good band that I'll mention is Foo Fighters. Their song Everlong is my favorite rock song of all-time. Other good songs by them are Times Like These, Monkey Wrench, Learn to Fly, and DOA.
I would say shy away from OneRepublic, from what I've heard, they are very repetitive and get old fast.
If you want some good rock bands that are currently putting out good music, I would recommend -
The Black Keys
The Raconteurs
Queens of the Stone Age
The Fratellis
Radiohead
The Shins
Silversun Pickups
TV On the Radio
Wilco
Arcade Fire
Arctic Monkeys
Beck (has some hip-hop elements to his music, so i'd say definitely check him out)
Bloc Party
The Flaming Lips
MGMT
The New Pornographers

Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Love, the Doors...Orlando_MagicThe Doors are quite possibly the worst band ever, if you aren't on drugs
The Allman Brothers Band
Boris
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
Elliott Smith
Explosions in the Sky
King Crimson
Led Zeppelin
Neutral Milk Hotel
Of Montreal
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
Smashing Pumpkins
some of these are more indie pop than rock

I would agree with that, but I would say their 2nd album is better than the majority of the crap out there in the genre.
I am going to recommend the album Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon. Some awesome southern rock can be found on that album. They are opening for Pearl Jam this summer (who you should also look into if you want great 90's alternative rock).
Operation Ivy, Choking Victim, The Decemberists, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Streetlight Manifesto. Neutral Milk Hotel - "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" is my favorite album ever.Balimi
hahaha ... I know who you are now.

lol, both of Bloc Party's records suck. Their only good song was their single off their first EP & LP (I think it was called "Banquette" or something), and there's hella bands that do dance-rock better than that.

Any suggestions? I'm just starting to listen to that kind of dance-type rock and am liking what I hear.
Anyways, I'm into tons of non-rap music, mostlly of the indie variety. However, I'm into pretty much all of the fringes of the indie scene; ie, I listen to about everything besides indie rock. Because, ultimately, after hearing enough of it, I can honestly say that indie rock is, more often than not, just about as boring as commercial rock. So I listen to tons of indie pop, hardcore, emo (real emo), alt country, etc. The only rock I really listen to is classic rock ... I can get down with some Queen and Steve Miller Band and such ...IsThisIt_basicAs long you like the beatles I'm A okay with you
