Well, I have recently gotten in to this genre and want to expand now. I know some of you guys listen to rock, so I was hoping people could suggest some quality rock. I'm willing to check out anything that isn't Heavy/Death Metal.

Can't go wrong with some Beatles. Check Abbey Road. And get yourself a Kinks compilation. They own.

Heavy = best

thread = fail

I'd highly suggest Tool, Rage Against The Machine, or Incubus...it's not ridiculously heavy, or death metal, but it's not the smoother rock you're probably looking for.

Gotta give it to Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Beatles are someone you should listen to. I'd also give an ear to Sublime if you'd wanted.

YOU MUST listen to The BEatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" best album of all time IMO. Also try some rage against the machine, they're metal but not heavy metal. Oh and why not try John Mayer :oops: ?

What about One Republic? Are they any good? My friends are always listening to them, but all ive heard is "apologize" (the original, ive only heard the remix like twice) and i thought it was ok, but nothing special.

Rage Against the Machine has some songs that are covers of old-school hip-hop songs such as:

Microphone Fiend. (Eric B. & Rakim)

I'm Housin'. (EPMD)

How I Could Just Kill a Man (my favorite) (Cypress Hill)

Most of the other suggestions people gave are good too. One good band that I'll mention is Foo Fighters. Their song Everlong is my favorite rock song of all-time. Other good songs by them are Times Like These, Monkey Wrench, Learn to Fly, and DOA.

I would say shy away from OneRepublic, from what I've heard, they are very repetitive and get old fast.

If you want some good rock bands that are currently putting out good music, I would recommend -

The Black Keys

The Raconteurs

Queens of the Stone Age

The Fratellis

Radiohead

The Shins

Silversun Pickups

TV On the Radio

Wilco

Arcade Fire

Arctic Monkeys

Beck (has some hip-hop elements to his music, so i'd say definitely check him out)

Bloc Party

The Flaming Lips

MGMT

The New Pornographers

I would agree with that, but I would say their 2nd album is better than the majority of the crap out there in the genre.

I am going to recommend the album Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon. Some awesome southern rock can be found on that album. They are opening for Pearl Jam this summer (who you should also look into if you want great 90's alternative rock).

lol, both of Bloc Party's records suck. Their only good song was their single off their first EP & LP (I think it was called "Banquette" or something), and there's hella bands that do dance-rock better than that.

Anyways, I'm into tons of non-rap music, mostlly of the indie variety. However, I'm into pretty much all of the fringes of the indie scene; ie, I listen to about everything besides indie rock. Because, ultimately, after hearing enough of it, I can honestly say that indie rock is, more often than not, just about as boring as commercial rock. So I listen to tons of indie pop, hardcore, emo (real emo), alt country, etc. The only rock I really listen to is classic rock ... I can get down with some Steve Miller Band and such ...
