So are y'all feeling "Who Killed It?".... I don't like how Nas switched his voice for it, it sounds corny. When the beat first dropped I recognized it from Eric B & Rakim- "I Ain't No Joke" right away, and thought Nas was just gonna murder it with heat.... could I be anymore wrong...

Who Killed It is alright in my opinion. Sounds kind of weird at first, but you have to give it a few listens to appreciate it to a degree. It could have been potentially better, though.

I LOVE the beat, but Nas ****ed it up by switchin his voice. He should make a re-issue of the album and re-do the song in his regular voice...

^^^ I used to think it was very annoying when I first got the album. Not to mention very corny. But now I jam it with the rest of the songs. It grows on you, and the beat and the Ye See part more than makes up for it. :P Seriously though.

I think that voice was meant to be like a 30's private investigator in a black and white movie, anyone else think that?

Completely agree...but not just the Ya See part...the entire song is kinda dope...

This is my final review of it..

Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead

1. Money Over Bull**** (9.5/10)

Intro to the song, nice feel, already gives the feeling of Game's "Doctor's Advocate" with the dark beat, and Nas rips the beat apart.

2. You Can't Kill Me (8/10)

Solid track, Nas rips it, but the beat is kinda meh

3. Carry On Tradition (5/10)

Very similair to "You Can't Kill Me"...except the beat is worse...lmfao @ Scott Storch improving...this ish sounds just like "Too Much" and "Let's Ride"

4. Where Are They Now? (8.5/10)

Finally, the album picks up a little bit, after the strong intro. Shorter song, much better beat than the previous two songs (though nothing to be WOWed over) and Nas raps on some Coon's Picnic part 2 type-ish

5. Hip Hop Is Dead (10/10)

Y'all already know...dope beat, crack chorus, Nas rips the track into pieces...from here on out, the album gets really strong, and this track is really just the beginning. "On my second marriage, hip hop's my first wifey" [c] Nas

6. Who Killed It? (7.5/10)

Oddest song on the entire album...30's Dick Tracy type voice, as Nas sounds something like MF DOOM on this one....really annoying, and boring at first, and very skippable even....but it grows on you, a lot. I can't wait for lyrics to come out for this song, so I can try to find out what's going on...it would probably help me appreciate the song even more. "She says, walk this way, I'll tell you a children's story" [c] Nas

7. Black Republicans feat. Jay-Z (10/10)

Deserves an 11/10, and a nod for song of the year...Nas WRECKS this song, and Jay rides the beat to a tee..."Reep minds, keep 'em tryin', follow the street signs" [c] Nas

8. Not Goin' Back feat. Kelis (8/10)

Finally, a decent track between these two...Kelis actually isn't annoying as **** on this song, like she usaully is, and Nas comes hard as usaul.

Track 9: Still Dreaming feat. Kanye West (10/10)

Yet another ridiculously DOPE track....Kanye hasn't been this dope in months, and brings some heat, even on his verse :P Beat is RIDICULOUS btw..."Wha-wha-wha-whu-one-two, one-two, some dreams stay dreams, some dreams come true " [c] Kanye

Track 10: Hold Down The Block (5/10)

Most boring track on the album. Skip times 1,000

Track 11: Blunt Ashes (9/10)

Beat is from Chris Webber, and could use a bit of tweaking, but an overall good song....beat could've (well should've) been faster, so Nas didn't have to rhyme, like he was talking to a child, on the entire track.

12. Let There Be Light (9.5/10)

Really great song here....features an R&B singer named Tre Williams, on the Ill Will record label (wow, can't even believe that label has artists on it, outside of Nas, and those wastes of life, known as the Bravehearts)...Tre Williams kills the track, and sounds like Anthony Hamilton throughout the song...really good, feel good song.

13. Play On Playa (7.5/10)

Beat completely fits the mood, Snoop is atleast decent on the song, and Nas is...well, Nas. Much better than I intially thought.

14. Can't Forget About You (8/10)

I don't know who said this sounded like a Doorags part 2 type song, but whoever did, was flat-out wrong :( Good song, but nothing special....I'm still not sure if I like the 20's sound of Chrisette Michele on this song, or not.

15. Hustlers (8.5/10)

Really dope song, as Nas and Game rip it...but the Dre beat is HORRENDOUS...ugh...okay, it's not that bad, but it could've been much better....could've been another real standout track, with a different beat.

16. Hope (10/10)

Accapella track, where Nas is truly at his best....when he's NOT choosing a beat for a song ;) Perfect way to end the album, absolutely perfect.

Overall: 8.7/10

I don't see how so many people think the chorus sucks.. nearly every other forum discussion I've been on about the album cite the song as one of the biggest standouts, chorus and all.

The engineer had to die laughing the first time dude said, "ya shee???" Oh, Black Republican literally owns me. I'm with Colt, 11/10, Jay's verse ****s all over everything he spit on KC, and Nas murders the track as well, they both ride the beat (BTW, the beat to that track is so fitting) into the ground. It's kinda corny, but I swear the first time I heard it I didn't even realize how good it was, just because the idea of Jay & Nas (i.e. the two rappers that basically got me into rap) being on the same track was a trip. Oh, & I feel you Pyro, I had to pause it a couple times & get a grip myself...

I agree. It isn't better than Stillmatic, but I feel it's on par with I Am and God's Son. Alot better than Street's Disciple though.

[QUOTE="mowz00"]^^^ I used to think it was very annoying when I first got the album. Not to mention very corny. But now I jam it with the rest of the songs. It grows on you, and the beat and the Ye See part more than makes up for it. :P Seriously though.mowz00

Completely agree...but not just the Ya See part...the entire song is kinda dope...

I was joking about the ye see part, yet it is kinda catchy and made me laugh the first couple times I heard it.

rofl, most def.

Ugh, all this talk about this album, I had to listen to "Black Republicans" again....****ing RAPE.
