What kind of expectations do you have for Goblin? Does internet hype translate to album sales?

From what I've heard ("Yonkers" and now "Tron Cat"), Goblin doesn't seem like it's going to be too different from Bastard. Good thing I guess.

Odd Future is everywhere on the internet and they are resonating with a lot of different people ranging from hip-hop fans to Pitchfork (wannabe) hipsters, they have a movement, and are receiving a ton of critical acclaim. I think first week sales would be somewhere around 100K at the max (I would hope 50K at the absolute minimum). I'd love to see him sell more and prove me wrong since Odd Future is their own creation without any major label tampering... I'm just kind of hesitant to say he will when huge stars like Wiz Khalifa aren't even selling 200k first week.

Should be a fantastic album and I think it can move 50-100k easily first week...200k though I doubt it at this point in their careers.

It's alright. I think one of the problems I have with it is that it doesn't have the same novelty that Bastard did the first time I heard it.
Just like Bastard I think there's some really dope stuff here but there's some filler too. 6.5/10 after first listen, maybe it'll grow on me.

I've only bumped it once, but i have a feeling I may end up liking this more than Bastard. Seems a lot more focused, as another poster stated. First listen I really like Radicals, Tron Cat, She, and Transylvania. I had already heard Yonkers and Sandwitches and stuff but those are still dope songs too. Pretty good album

When I saw Anthonys review yesterday my anticipation got shot down so hard. I try to not let other peoples opinions affect mine but I agree with him most of the time. I am still going to check Goblin out though because I love Yonkers/Tron Cat.

this album has grown on me a whole lot in the last couple days. on first listen i thought it was alright, had some really good songs (windows, fish, radicals, golden) but i wasnt too impressed by some of it. now i've been playing the album all the way through daily, not even skipping yonkers. my only complaint (which is also a good thin, i guess) is how many similarities there are to old school eminem. the alter ego's, subject matter, screaming, and shooting of people on the album just reminds me of SSLP and MMLP every time i listen to it

This album is almost a rip off of relapse.  I like it a lot, but the first track has basically the same intro and em's influence is easily heard.

iirc he made a direct reference to Relapse in a lyric on Bastard.

Yeah he also made a reference to Waka Flocka on Goblin doesn't mean he's ripping him off.

And even then, if it is in fact a similiarity whatever happened to paying homage to your influences.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, it's just blatantly obvious.

Goblin is great. Only a few tracks I didn't like and it's something unique coming into the genre for once. Of course this is far from something that's gonna appeal to everyone but if you are somewhat intelligent, have an open mind, and a random/youthful/offensive sense of humor then you'll love it. Compared to Bastard, I'd say it's on par, if not better.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15413-goblin/

"it makes sense that the rise of Odd Future started in the avant UK music mag The Wire"

The Pitchfork review of Goblin just gave credit to Noz for blowing Odd Future up. I'm sure he disagrees with that though. Noz is very responsible for a lot of the attention that OF received from the Fader, Pitchfork, etc. (the music critic side of things) but the movement mainly grew from word of mouth throughout sites like the the Hypebeast message boards, Tumblr and then on to other places.

Friend: Yo man I heard your album dropped how is it?

Tyler: it ****in sucks I don't even listen to it

Friend: Why?

Tyler: I've never rapped before

Friend: clearly....

Tyler: duh

Friend: So should I listen to it?

Tyler: no, you can buy it though. just don't even listen to it cuz it sucks

I waited until I bought the album to finally listen to it and have heard all the way through several times now. At first I was a bit disappointed, but this album grows on me every time I hear it. There are some meh tracks, but overall I think it's better than Bastard and a step forward for Tyler. I wish Earl was on the album though.

getting kind of sick of OF they need new stuff aka Earl to come back. I've just overplayed every single song they have no joke.
