I was listening to Follow The Leader on the subway and this just came in my head. In my head, there aren't many but there are definitely some albums out there that are perfect. For me, perfect means not one weak track and it's something that made an impact. Nothing on the album falls off and it's constructed in the best way possible. It can't be improved in any way.

Y'all can define it however you want.

I'll just start with Hip Hop albums.

For non hip-hop, Loveless by My Bloody Valentine

36 Chambers is just about flawless. Albums like Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt and others are arguably better and have better songs but they're not the consistent effort that Chambers is.

Also, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Midnight Maurader, the Low End Theory, and The Blueprint and maybe Criminal Minded.

The last Blink 182 album, seriously listen to it before you judge, it is way different than all their other stuff.  Much more experimental.

I think if you were to take a survey and asks ATCQ fans which album is better it'd be 50/50. I prefer the low end theory though, the bass lines on that album are siick

Definitely, I like the sound of Midnight Marauders though a bit more. Electric Relaxation, Award Tour, Steve Biko (Still one of the best opening tracks ever), Oh My God, etc. It's just such a perfect album and I'm glad I got to hear Tribe perform it this year.

According to Q-Tip though they got three cIassics. I guess he was reffering to People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm. What y'all think of that? It kind of made me curious so I've gone back to listening to it.

co-sign with that.

As far as perfect albums...well, some have been mentioned in this thread. imo there are very few, but i'd have to give it to these....

American Football - American Football LP
American Football - American Football EP
David Bowie - The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Amerie - All I Have
D'Angelo - Voodoo
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Binary Star - Masters Of The Universe
King Crimson - Red
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid In Full
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
Radiohead - Kid A
Erykah Badu - Mama's Gun
Maxwell - Urban Hang Out Suite
Prince - 1999
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
Raekwon - Only Built For Cuban Linx
A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Ashes Grammar
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory

This list can probably be chopped in half, but as i recall these are all worthy of perfection imo.

Just a few off-top ...

E-40, "In a Major Way"
Jay-Z, "Reasonable Doubt"
Public Enemy, "Fear of a Black Planet"
Tum Tum, "Tumthousand9: The Grassy Knoll"
Ultramagnetic MC's, "Critical Beatdown"

And that is not a qualitative statement. I enjoy Boss Hogg Outlawz' "Serve & Collect" a lot more than some of the albums on that list, but it's not perfect - it has that awful song from PJ, and I think there's one track that's only above average. The albums on that list are albums that, to me, have no bad songs, and I would not go back and change them if I could.

lol damn... I was just about to make a big post about In A Major Way.  That album really is perfect on so many levels... perfect production, perfect guest performances, and (of course) perfect rhyming from E-40.  If you aint heard it, you're missing the other half of what made Vallejo the largest bay rap scene after Oakland & Frisco, the other half being Mac Dre & YBB.  This is more than a ****c... this is bay rap history.

I was going to nominate that in the classic albums thread but wasn't sure it'd receive enough votes to get in. Anyways from front to back to back there isn't one bad track.  I don't see how anyone could knock it either, beats are bangin' and it's just a complete album

To me it's basically everything "Illmatic" is supposed to be ... I don't even post much about it here because, to me, the album transcends just being great rhymes and just having great production; it's way more than that. I'd put "Federal" and "The Mailman" right up there with it. "Game Related" isn't far off for me, either, but I like that album more than most people do.
