$1 billion Star Trek resort promises 23rd century experiences

$1 billion Star Trek resort promises 23rd century experiences

Now that Disney World has its ownStar Wars"Star Tours" attraction, what aboutStar Trekfans? Fans of Captain Kirk and Spock will have to travel to Aqaba, Jordan to get their Dilithium crystal fix.

Rubicon Group Holding's $1 billion, 184-acre "Red Sea Astrarium" is a resort with aStar Trektwist. According to Hotelier MiddleEast, RGH and Paramount Recreation are working closely to create aStar Trekattraction that will "deliver a variety of multi-sensory 23rd-century experiences, culminating with a state-of-the art space-flight adventure that takes real-time immersive entertainment experiences to bold new heights." That and it's inspired by the 2009 J.J. Abrams'Star Trekflick. Yikes, wasn't that a total disaster? (Then again, I'm more of aStar Warskind of guy).

Can we expect working Transporter chambers? You wish. What about workingTricorders? Maybe some replica ones. What can visitors expect then? We're not really sure, but we hope a replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise's command cockpit will be available for our entertainment.

If the idea of spending a few days at the Astrarium sounds delightful, then you'd better have some patience as thisStar Trekresort isn't expected to be finished until 2014.

This sounds, interesting. I'll be bringing my lightsaber.

BTW, who wrote that Star Trek (2009) was a total disaster? It almost made $300 million (don't know about the world wide ticket sales), and recieved a RottenTomatoes rating of 94%.

I must say, I am interested. I am not a fan of long flights, though.

Sounds awesome, even though I've seen very little Star Trek stuff and have no intention of flying across the Atlantic for something like that. :P

If it is reasonably priced, I'll probably go. After Plinkett's Star Wars reviews, and Lucasarts' destruction of the video game IP, I've become a bigger Star Trek fan.

Great idea but ... why couldn't they make it in the USA. Jordan? Come on. Why would I fly over there for a Star Trek experience. It's a great idea but the location leaves me saying "so What."

I'm pretty sure Star Trek isn't a very good representation of the 23rd century.

I really hope they have some areas dedicated to TOS and TNG. The new movie was OK, but nowhere near as cool as the REAL Star Trek franchise shows and films.

Sweet. So is it going to be in the Captain Kirk era, where you can screw green women and get a real drink, or in the Captain Picard era where men wear skirts and they have "synthehol"?

I would pay extra for a drink if it got served to me by someone in Ferengi makeup.

Albino vampire dominatrixes would add some flavor to the proceedings. You can put them right next to the Risa section.

Star Trek movie, Total Disaster?

I'm not into Star Trek at all, like Star Wars better, but even I thought the movie was badass.

Yep because we all know hollywood related things are so accurate in judging what the future will look like.. My personal favorite is Back to the Future 2's rendition of 2015.. One where the director spent more time originally planned because he wanted to make the future be as accurate as possible.. So come 2015, we will have flying cars and we will all dress like morons.
