The last thing 11-year-old Ewelina Bledniak of Cummings, Ga., had in mind for her summer vacation was a deportation fight.

But Hubert and Agnes Bledniak's daughter, who has been in the U.S. since she was 2 years old, faces getting thrown out of America if she doesn't "voluntarily leave" the country by July 23.

If she doesn't go "home" to Poland - a country she hasn't seen since she was a baby - on her own, she'll be sent back involuntarily and not allowed to return for 10 years.

Ewelina's family came to America in 1999, and her father has become an American citizen. Her mother, a permanent resident, also is seeking to become a citizen. But because of a lawyer's mistake eight years ago, according to the Bledniaks, Ewelina can't stay in the U.S. with her parents.

The Bledniaks say their lawyer failed to file the proper documentation for Ewelina back in 2001 - a mistake that stayed under the radar until the family applied for their daughter's green card. It came back denied, automatically putting Ewelina into deportation proceedings.

Your thoughts? Instead of concentrating on millions of illegals that work, bypass taxes and come here illegally every year. The government is letting them stay but forcing an 11 year old girl to return to Poland without her parents. Our immigration system is absolutely terrible.

No, by millions I was talking about the ones that work here, and don't pay taxes as well as the ones that come here every year.

That is really unfair, not only to the child, but also to the parents. That's traumatizing to both of them.

Separating an 11 year old child from her parents because some paperwork got messed up is just inhumane and cruel. Hopefully this news gets enough backlash that the government works with the family on resolving the situation and letting her earn citizenship.

Why would you do such a thing? She's 11. She can't pay taxes anyway.

I can't see them just sending the kid to Poland without anyone with her, at all. Even the immigration officials can't be that lacking in sense.

It's an 11 year old girl. Can't they just let her stay? This sounds ridiculous and unfair

that is horrible for the poor family. i thought it was like if the parents are US citizen then their children are also citizen... they should get that fixed, really horrible for the kid. i say have a friend take care of her for a while so she can stay here in the US, things will get straighten out.

Just from looking at the title, I think this is insane. Why would an eleven year old girl have to leave without her parents because of a stupid test? (You know what I mean) That's just..stupid.

Sounds like a standard procedure to me, I doubt that this will actually happen. It'll probably be fixed by the end of July.

Like the other posters said, I am sure they will get everything sorted out and she won't actually be deported.

I think you guys are getting a little sucked into rhetoric here. I very much doubt they'll deport her.

If she HAS to go (which shouldn't happen), but if it does, her parents should go with her.
