[QUOTE="kidsmelly"]I thought that too.. Would have been interesting. I thought a mosque was somewhere of religious gather kind of like a church? if that's the case than that and a community center aren't exactly the same thing.. Tell me which exactly and I'll tell you whether its okay or not. It's a Mosque AND a community centerFor some reason I thought it said 15 story mouse. That would be cool.

Either way I still think its fine. For some reason I thought it said 15 story mouse. That would be cool.

It's in the topic. 2 blocks from ground zero. One of the buildings that was partially damaged. 15 stories = 15 floors ( not sure if serious )You know that's such an easy typo to fix... I mean...

thattotally
you can SAY you can. But it doesnt mean that you do. ^_^ Anyways, I know there will be people who will not be ok with it. They racially profile them.. and religiously profile them, thinking one muslim is the same as the next and they think exactly the same. Its a bit of a sore spot, Im sure, for New Yorkers and people who live near it, but this is the US of A, and we support religious freedoms. And before someone has a chance to say a thing about religious freedom... we support Religious Freedom... NOT Radicalism. That doesn't bother me, though I cannot speak for everyone. Or can I? ...

It is a community center and mosque.
"..Cordoba House project calls for a 15-story community center including a mosque, performance art center, gym, swimming pool and other public spaces."
"It will have a real community feel, to celebrate the pluralism in the United States, as well as in the Islamic religion," Khan said. "It will also serve as a major platform for amplifying the silent voice of the majority of Muslims who have nothing to do with extremist ideologies. It will counter the extremist momentum.""
"The project got mixed reviews from families and friends of September 11 victims."
"I think it's the right thing to do," said Marvin Bethea, who was a paramedic at ground zero. "I lost 16 friends down there. But Muslims also got killed on 9/11. It would be a good sign of faith that we're not condemning all Muslims and that the Muslims who did this happened to be extremists. As a black man, I know what it's like to be discriminated against when you haven't done anything."
Herbert Ouida, whose son was killed in the attacks, supports the project as a way to bridge cultural divide.
"I understand the anger, the bitterness and hatred, but it only generates more hatred," Ouida said. "Such a large part of the world has this faith, and to say anyone who has this faith is a terrorist, it's terrible."
After reading all that, I don't see a problem with it at all. This actually sounds like a very posotive thing to do.
The fact that this is even a source of outrage just illustrates how much Islam has been demonized by the media all because of the actions of a small percentage of vociferous radicals.
Whilst I think they have every right to do so, and there's no reason why we should associate these people with terrorists, I can't help but feel slightly uncomfortable about it. It just seems a bit insensitive if you ask me.Stumpt25
this is the word i was looking for in my eariler post
seriously of all the places to build it??
[QUOTE="Murj"]
What kind of facilities does a mosque require that it needs to be 15 stories high?

to show off the power of orangized religion
im not a racist, but you cant deny that the average new yorker would walk by that and feel alittle...i dont know
It's not a mosque. It's a community center, which has a mosque inside.
Read people, read!! :x:x

Oh, OK, so it's a 15-story community center that containsa mosque, not a 15-story mosque.
Which makes this even more of a non-story.

Exactly. So many people seem to forget that...
And so many people seem to forget that an average muslim is just another normal person..

Yeah, but what is OT without it's fair share of misleading topic titles?
This. If the situation were the other way around somehow, it probably wouldn't be allowed.[QUOTE="Stumpt25"]It just seems a bit insensitive if you ask me.Murj
I don't see how after 9 years it could even be jokingly considered insensitive. That's ridiculous to think this is mean't as some sort of insult to us, due to the fact that you couldn't really take it as any sort of insult even if you wanted to :|.
