Just as well. I could see that bringing up all kinds of ethical and moral issues. Itd be mad if she lived to be 300 or something.

This is the second such person I have heard of with this affliction.

I don't understand the fascination with wanting to live forever. Unless they make is so you don't have to WORK for all eternity and they'd have to immediately halt all births including buns that are already in the oven.

I agree with this. It sucks that the girl is probably suffering if she needs 24 hour care.

Yes probably, but if this one girl hold the key to longer human life, well... we need her.

I wonder where she is at mentally...how bad would it suck to have a sound mind and have your body betray you.
I feel so bad for people in those situations.

Honestly, I hope that she thinks like a baby and is oblivious to what is going on

Personally, I would love to live for a VERY long time (though not forever) and be able to go to school and learn about everything I ever dreamt about learning.
-I would also love to see the world change over that period of time...i find societal changes to be fascinating

Old. With age comes wisdom, and to hide that wisdom behind a facade of youth would definitely not be something I would enjoy. I want to be the white-haired 70 year old, sitting in his study/den/library with a scotch and pipe, reading a thick book.

Unless this genetic mutation catches on naturally (which wouldn't apply to me anyways), I don't particularly care whether I am 75 or 150. I'm not scared of old-age or death. I just don't want to become enfeebled and suffer because of it.

Not all of it is about vanity though. Old people just can't do some of the same things young people can. I do not mind/fear death, but I would like to be as active as I am now when I retire -I am up at the gym every day at 5 am...there is no way I will b able to do what I do now at 80

indeed, imagine living like an asari. You spend your first 300 years just learning and being a kid and teenager and partying and finding yourself, you spend the second 300 years having a lot of sex with interesting people and working on your career, and you spend the last few hundred years just sitting on your front porch giving advice to people and yelling at noisy cars saying "Take off 'dat damn muffla you ragamuffin! Your car sounds like an angry bee rabble rabble!"

I simply presented you with the answer to your question. I would have no interest in altering my aging proccess. Though if I was givin the option to live eternity as a young guy or old guy, I would choose young.

When I'm old enough to be "old" I don't doubt we'll have ways of extending the active period of our life span. And honestly, if you keep in shape your entire life, you'll still be capable of most things at 75 that you were at 35.

my dad is into his 70s, he was never exactly a fit guy (dont think he ever went to the gym) but, you know...he plays golf two or three times a week. He still walks upright and doesnt act physically old.

It just goes to show you how little activity is really needed to still stay active in your senior years. You gotta be really lazy or unfortunate to be one of those old farts on a scooter.

I do not think there will be any way that I will be able to run like I run now and lift what I lift now at 80 years old
-I do those things (get up at 4 am) b/c I love doing them...it will be a great loss to me when I am no longer able to do them at this level
-like not being to learn and study as I do now

Watching Betty White on SNL was quite sad for me.

I do not fear death...I dread growing old

I agree with this. My grandfather who is 82 is still very active, he recently started a new food bag manufacturing company. He does all of the maintenance work himself. He actually recently fell off the top of an 10' latter onto the concrete, but still keeps going, I hope I inherit his old age youthfulness.

See, that's the thing. This mutation couldn't make it into the general gene pool to be passed on. This "miracle gene" they are going on about wouldn't benefit the average person, as it prevents ALL aging, not just the aging of the skin (which is what I assume to be the most popular form of anti-aging "solutions"). This girl wouldn't be able to reproduce, let alone pass her genetic material along to the next generation. Something like this getting into the gene pool would be detrimental to the overall selection, as it would inhibit the natural growth process.

That is what I am thinking...but my guess is that she will have a ton of other health problems -also, I wonder what her immune system is like (as far as being developed)

I'm fairly sure lobsters don't age (physically) as well.
