18-year-old girl arrested after faking COVID-19 to get out of McDonalds shift.

TORONTO -- An 18-year-old Hamilton, Ont. woman allegedly created a fake doctor’s note stating that she had tested positive for COVID-19 in order to get out of her shift at a local McDonald’s.

On Monday, police officers were notified by Hamilton Public Health Services that the individual had created a “fake physician’s note with fraudulent medical information” about testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

The fake note was reportedly given to a supervisor at the McDonald’s location, located on Rymal Road, four days prior.

Const. Lorraine Edwards said “that one action had a wide community impact.”

Looks like she won't have to worry about her shift for the foreseeable future.

Calling-out sick would have been the better option but bringing a fake note can get you into alot of trouble.

Any excuse other than that would have worked.

A stupid thing to do. Waste of resources and she committed a crime. Not to excuse what she did, but I hear fast food workers have it really rough with management being strict on them to show up to their shifts during the pandemic. I don't think they have any form of hazard pay either.

If I worked at Mcdonalds I would want to be killed off by the virus.

I'd be very careful of not using the R-word around here, especially to other mods who will take action towards users saying it. You have been warned. But yes, I agree she was foolish.

Lucky for me I live in a state they just have to take your word for it as long as you don't call out for more than a couple consecutive shifts.

It was dumb to say it was COVID; should have just said "sick" in general.

Super easy to get a doctor's note now, too, since they don't actually want to see you in person. I called mine, we spoke, he said "You have a cold, not COVID. I'll email you a note for work" and that was that.

Reminds me of this funny meme I saw about Covid-19. Person is like, thank god, my covid test was negative, but you can see test slip and he is positive for everything else like hepatitis A, B, C, HIV, syphilis, etc. lol.

It's essentially the equivalent of the n-word except for people with intellectual disabilities. No, not as bad obviously, but it's in the same realm of being crude, crass, and generally terrible.

It's also immature, like some kid calling something he doesn't like "gay".

You're better off not using it; even if you're the kind of jackass who doesn't care about offending people, it still makes you look stupid.

Lol saw this posted on FB this morning. This girl is a tool, why would you even want the day off work anyways, its not like you can do anything really with the free time. Everywhere is closed and you cannot (or should not) be seeing your friends. I hope this haunts her in her future. Pretty ignorant to avoid work when so many people are out of it and would love the chance to be making money, even if it is at a fast food establishment.

Not sure she should have been arrested for a fake doctor's note. It's stupid, but also something that happens all the time without the police needing to get involved.

You're being obtuse. There's no slippery slope here. there's no "what's next?!" to worry about; stupid people come in all shapes and sizes and so on and so forth--anyone can be stupid--but the intellectually disabled have very specific issues and the r-word refers to them in a derogatory way, even when you don't mean to.

If you say 2+2=5, you're stupid. It doesn't matter if your 10 or 80 years old, a high school drop out or a PhD holder, or normal person or a mildly intellectually disabled person...you're stupid if you say that.

But if you call that person the r-word, you're associating the intellectually disabled with being stupid, which is far from what they actually are.

It's simply a word you just don't use any more. That's all. I mean when was the last time you called a black person a "negro"? 1950? Same thing with the r-word.

Wow who in the world would fake something as serious as COVID 19 is? COVID19 is nothing to joke about. Anyhow I am very Offended by the R-Word I was once labeled as one until that term was no longer acceptable.

Hmmm that's interesting. I had a knee issue and needed a note from my doctor but they said HIPAA law prevents it going through email. They faxed it for me and mailed my copy.

Never lie. That's the message here.
