So, really, you want life to be more like the movies portray the 1800's, not how the 1800's really were?

2 the person up there who brought up he likes his mp3 in not saying there would be any loss in technology just a gain in culture and mannerisms. And the person who siad up there that id like it how the 1800's were portrayed in movies that leeds me to wonder were people realy like that.

Problem is twofold. First the 1800s occupied a tremendous amount of time and styles changed drastically. Second, the "manners" that you refer to were largely the domain of the upper and middle classes. Regular working folks were just as rude then as they are today.

Ohhh, you rarely find a kind hearted person through and through. It would be the same as it is now, IMO.

Nah, the 1800's were better. If you had a problem with a man, you called him out, then your friend in the bell tower shot 'em in the back. And that's the way it should be.

Living in the 1800s would have sucked... early 1800s slavery was legal, mid 1800s, probably would have died in the civil war, late 1800s post civil war depression and rebuild

GUYS TO MAKE IT CLEAR read the topic, i didnt say woudlnt it be cool if we lived in the 1800's i said wouldnt it be cool if people acted the way and dressed the way people did in the 1800's, so you guys will still have your interweb and all that good crap but the only thing changed would be manners and clothing style.

yeah the whole not showeing and underwear is nasty but come on if people dressed the same they did in the 1800's we would change our underwear and shower daily, once agian nothing would be changed other then what people wear and how mannerd they are.

That was only the very high society of the 1800's. Most of that time was filled with barbarism and horrible acts of inhumanity.

Exactly. Only the upper class acted like that during that time period and there are still an upper class of sort today. There would be severe problems if we all acted like people did back in the 1800's e.g. Women would still be seen as inferior and have no rights not to mention racial issues. We are much more of a civilised planet in this day and age to be honest, although it might not seem that way. There are still the well mannered people today as there was 200 years ago.
