2 very strange life decisions

1.so let me put in i am a big gamer, not entirely addicted but since i got my 360 ive been close to 1. so my parents recently sold a house and for all the work i did helping renovate it they said i would be getting a world trip :). i thought this was a fantastic idea. problem is i NEVER save and we all know it. dad use to tell me I was stupid not to save but hes come to terms i will never save! so i was planning on taking the trip next year after my final school year finally finishes. thing is they are only paying for the ticket no expenses and so far i have 2 bucks saved as ive bought games. im 19 btw. now i do want to take the trip but id rather put the money to something ill use instead of a trip that ill never save for: a hdtv. why? cause as i said im a big gamer and i can only imagine how good itll make my gaming experience ;) and itll also come in handy for number 2. i mean i do want the trip but itll never happen! this may not seem important and dumb that i gave up a trip for a hdtv but cmon do i have to say it again? i will never save no matter what. ive tried setting up 2 budgets but new games keep coming out and i love gaming!

2. ok so finally im upto my final year of school . i dont plan to goto college! i plan to become a chef one day but ive been thinking. i have all these kick ass games on 360 and pc and even on ps2 and hell i still havent beaten some snes, 64, and ds and psp games ive bought. and with gta4 8 damn days away there goes another few months ay? so my plan is to take the whole year off and just game game game. i mean course ill be going out with friends and doing the usual and ill have a part time job but imagine nothing like school on my back to take up my time! im 19 and still young. most of my friends support my decision! and most of them arent even gamers... they say: you are still young and only live once, as long as that choice makes you happy than do it. even my gf supports it. she knows how big a gamer i am and she knows when it comes to gaming just to let me be or join in :). shes no gamer but she doesnt mind playing a few with me :P. so yeah this may seem dumb and nerdly but :) hell its my choice!

well lets just say if i dont do it than ill be coming back as a ghost. i mean as a gamer i feel i just have to beat these games before i die or it wont be fitting to me. like i may even be putting some books in there, music, everything. hell my ipod has over 8000 songs and its getting bigger everyday O_O im also a music nut :D.
i wanna get loads of stuff in my brain before it becomes nothing :) lol.

Oh, and also...

go travel.

Travelling is better than gaming. Seriously. You can really learn a lot and get a nice appreciation for reality by seeing lots of different living situations and realities. It'll make you appreciate the time you have with games more and everything.

So your parents are supporting you to travel globaly around the world and you would rather sti and play your games? fair enough but in my own opinion thats a little sadwizard90

I'd grab the TV for the right here right now factor... world trip can be done later and trip is only fun if your going with a love one(ie. your girlfriend) or with a bunch of mates. Its boring by yourself, been there done that, and requires money, and lots of it, to keep yourself entertained.

I suck at saving too... I tend to blow my money on stuff that I can have right here right now that I get something in return that can be kepted and re-use - ie. TV, laptop, gaming console etc

Don't listen to people who say "oh that's sad"... I think it's cool that you're doing what YOU want to do with your life and not trying to live it the way other people expect you to.HazeVJ

btw to everyone, i wrote a big thing in reply to wizard but let me put it this way. you think i havent thought about it? my parents offered me the trip why? because i jokingly asked them for it and they took it serious. was i gonna say no? now seriously even if i saved up, stopped buying games id still not have enough to go all round the world, buy fancy crap, stay at any bludey hotel etc. why? i have the following: bills, a gf, friends. i mean even my gf knows she costs money :P and i know i cost her money its life. my friends know also(going out with them costs money to all of us). am i gonna neglect them for a damn trip? XD wtf and die. now we put a trip thatll never happen and mind you ive already been to all the places i wanna goto and there is nowhere else i want to go. now we put taht up against a hdtv which will make my gaming experience much more fun and also make me very happy.

Mate if you really wanted to do it, im sure you could get the money, you dont need a fancy hotel and lots of spending money traveling isnt about that and you wouldent be 'neglecting' people, they are not animals. Keep comming up with poor reasons not to go if you want, but if you really dont want to go just admit that you could go if you wanted to but you have decided not to, these crappy reasons make you sound in denial. But its your desicion, I know im having a go at you, but dont let anyone say you made the wrong desicion because at the end of the day people have no right to tell you what to do, its your desicion even if its a bad one, but since you posted your story on an internet forum I have thrown in my two cents.

Well I guess for me I find it boring and lonely unless I have someone to keep me company to enjoy the trip with and chit chat about the interesting things we've seen and done...example...

Scenario 1 - I'm taking a hike up a mountain by myself thinking to myself and reach the top looking out at the amazing view thinking how beautiful it is.

Scenario 2 - I'm taking a hike up a mountain with a mate/girlfriend and as we're hiking up we're talking chit chatting about how fun it is, we reach the top and see the great view and chit chat about how amazing it is.

Scenario 1 is fun in it's own way as you explore things yourself but I know I'd prefer Scenario 2 as what past experience has taught me - I like the company its "more fun" I guess.

im planning on 40-42. yes ive been everywhere and as i said id be just going back to them as nowhere else interests me and why go back and see the same exact stuff when i already got a crapload of photos and a lot of video

If he/she doesn't want people to tell him/her what to do with his/her, why is he/she posting this on a public forum?!? Nobody needs to know the choices he/she makes.

On the topic, I definitely think that it's indeed a sad choice to prefer games over a world trip. Besides, it's not like you NEED an HDTV to play games. I'm pretty sure you will regret it at one point in your life.

I think its great that you wanna live the life you want..but i mean come on. its just an hdtv. sure it would make your gaming awsome ( i have a 62" smasung HDTV) but honnestly, going on a world trip would be major fun! And this is how you can work it out.

Have an agreement with your friends and have everyone chip in and go together. You wont have to save as much and you'll be doing something worthwhile with all your friends.

Im not that much of a gamer anymore...havent bought a 360 game for months..or played for that matter, but an HDTV is just, well a good quality tv. Something that could end up being broken or stolen if someone goes and breaks into your house. A world trip with people you enjoy being around and all those memories you will have would be much more than a dumb tv.

Overall, id say do what YOU want to do. But if I would have to choose between an HDTV if i didnt have one, or videogames for that matter or a World trip with all my friends I would most definetly choose the trip.

DONT WASTE YOUR LIFE AWAY BY SITTING ON YOUR COUCH PLAYING ON A HDTV. GO AND EXPLORE THE WORLD AND EXPERINCE THINGS THAT YOU WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO DO ELSEWISE. YOUR PARENTS ARE PAYING FOR 1/4 TO 1/2 YOUR TRIP!! GO FOR IT! F*** THE DAMN TV!

1. I would buy the HDTV instead, as well. Once you start HD gaming you will never go back to SD, and you'll probably even want to upgrade your cable to HD programs. A trip will be something that you'll always remember (or maybe something that you'll not want to remember if it goes bad), but you'll get much more time to enjoy the tv.

2. When I graduate I plan to take a year off too. Then when I'm 19 I'll go to college.

look it wont be my whole life itll definitly be a year. i just want to get all the fun stuff, games, music, books out of the way before i go after a chef apprenticeship. i hate school yes i really do and as i said im not going to college cause i want to be a chef and have to for years
