My friend kinda likes this girl, shes about 15 and hes 20. Yesterday he asked me if its okay to go out with her concidering shes a bit...young.... I had nothing to say to him! But really, what do you guys think? Ew or is that just fine for a 20 year old to go out with a 15 year old?

At an older age, a five year difference is okay, but at their current age they might need to wait a year, or two, or four.

Anyway you could wait until she is of legal age? I am not against it really, because people have the ability to love each other regardless of age. It is more concern on behalf of you.

he can go out w/ her it's perfectly legal i think. He just can't have sex w/ her until she is 16 w/ parents consent, unless that was just for 2 people under 18. They had something about it in school but now i forget. Probably illegal or somehting and it's kinda messed up, he must be pretty desperate.

not cool. not only is it cradle robbing (20/2 = 10 + 7 = 17 = the youngest person he should be dating) but im pretty sure its illegal... or at least anything sexual they plan on doing together would be illegal... ( around where i live 16 is age of consent and if its over 5 years age difference its automatic statutory, which i think is pretty basic )

well my gf is seventeen very nearly 18, and i am also 20. i felt awkward about it when she first told me her age but i think its not too big a gap. just.

15 and 20 imo is a fair bit too far.

do you all think 17 nearly 18 and a 20 yr old is wierd?

Not funny really. In the mid-teen age set, a difference of a few years could mean major physical changes.

Now if this was a 15 year old male and a 20 year old female, I bet most would be complimenting the guy for getting an older girl (unless of course that girl who got impregnated by a 13 year old has left a bad taste in your mouth :P)

No its bad. and why do people keep making these threads,regardless of the moral standpoint its illegal. That should be enough right there. never mind at the age they are not fully mature adults. I am getting really sick of people thinking that just because they are behind a computer screen its okay to talk like there is nothing wrong with this. It destroys lives folks plain and simple. And let me riterate IT IS NOT LEGAL AND YOU COULD BECOME CHARGED AND CLASSIFIED AS A SEX OFFENDER.

I wouldn't. I'm 20, and a 15 year old girl was hitting on me a few weeks ago. She was kinda hot and looked 18, but then she told me she just turned 15, so it was really a downer, and I decided to just not touch that lol. If I turn 21 before they become legal, they they are some serious jailbait. When I was 18, I wouldn't date a 15 year old (I Had the chance), I went on a few dates with an almost 17 year old girl, and I still felt alittle to old for her. I wouldn't go for anyone under 18. And even 18 is a bit too young.... But in reality, 19 is about as low as I'll go. I dont want to be with anyone still in high school....

I find it interesting how although society has generally become more liberal as time progresses, in some regards society has become more conservative. A hundred years ago, it was not uncommon for 14 year old's to date or even marry people 4 or 5 years older. Now however, its like, "ZOMG, hes a child molester!!! You sick pedophile!!" I think this is a result of the media overblowing the problem of child molestation and child abuse. Yes, its despicable, but I think that many people have become to cautious. I was watching Penn & Teller's Bull***t, and they did an episode about how parents are too paranoid about their child being abducted. One lady they had on the show would not give her kids any freedom at all because she was too worried about them being abducted. And I think this is what is happening here. I know that there are some people who specifically single out underage kids because they are young, but I do believe that there are genuine cases of love. Sometimes, people just can't help who they fall in love with. And if that person happens to be 3 or 4 years younger than them, and that love is genuine and mutual, then I believe we should respect that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the person is just looking to abuse and take advantage of the younger one, then it is wrong. However, if the base of their attraction is a true, genuine, and mutual love, then I believe we should respect that. Of course, only the person themselves know their real motives, and therein lies the problem.

Amen. It's TV I swear thats scaring these parents. You can't play with these children anymore! I made a funny face to a child one time at the grocery store and the mother called me a pedophile. People need to lighten up and live a litte. -_-

If they are happy then go for it. Who cares what other people think? As long as it's legal (And in the vast majority of states I believe it is and if you live in Canada the age of consent is 14 as long as he's not like a father figure to her) I say go for it.

Legal issues aside, a 15 year old person will still develop (mentally) and after having fully developed (20ish for most) she might not be the person he would like to date anymore. Of course not every relationship does have to aim for being life long, but when dating a 15 year old I'd say it's a long wait 'til legal age so if he's willing to wait that time then I'd think he's in it for real.
