At first I thought it was rather dull and disappointing, though afterwards I've come to like it a bit more. It's definitely not something you can compare to 2001, as they're both so radically different. The one thing I hated though was [spoiler] how Jupiter turned into a new sun or something like that. True but still I was cool seeing that.....Im still hoping that the other two remaining books get made into movies because their plots seem interesting.Plus it would kinda make the same effect that 2001 gave when it was released in the 60's since 2001:3 is set in the year 2060 something.

I love the film of 2010. It was made at the height of the cold war and has some tense moments against its backdrop of political conflict. Ive read all the books and enjoyed them all, I like it when things have a grand scope.
