2010 was the start of the decade. 2001 may have been the start of the millennium but 2000 was not the 90s.

I would say 2010 was the start of the new decade but I could be wrong.

Yeah 2000 was apart of the 2000's. And 2010 will be apart of the 2010's.

I think the arguement goes: "there was no year 0, and a decade lasts ten years, so the year 0011 would have been the start of the second decade. Im confused im sorry for starting this thread :P

2000-2009 is 10 years. 2010 is a start of a new decade. How do you people get this mixed up?

The year 0 didn't exist. Therefore the FIRST decade was 1-10. From there it went 11-20, and so on. Notice the last digit in the starting year is one... the last digit in 2011 is one... the last digit in each ending year is zero... the last digit in 2010 is zero...

My bad. Forgot 0 was not a year.

We did not start with year 0. We started with year 1. So technically 2011 is the start of the new decade

Unless you consider 2000 to be part of the 90s, 2010 started a new decade.

Yes. Just because it was the most useless thing ever to argue about.

From what I've learned in school, a decade is 10 years so 2010 was actually the beginning of the current decade we're in.
