The end of the world being based on the "end" of the mayan calander is ridiculous. The mayan calender in fact, does not "end" in 2012, it just shifts back to the beginning or day zero, just as our calender shifts years. 2012 just signifies a new time period, not the end of the world. Besides, everyone that yells abaout the end of the world would be more correct to say the end of humanity, as the world will go on, with or without us.
