Yes Yes Yes. Apps i find useful are Mail, WiFinder, Safari, Palringo (MSN), and there's a fewother games worth mentioning. Also theres going to be a second gen ipod touch Jailbreak soon which will open up alot of new useful apps if you choose to Jailbreak the firmware.

There's really no point in jail breaking anymore. The appstore basically killed it, why would developers make apps for free for a limited audience when they can get paid and make them for a huge audience? Anyway, the iPod Touch is fantastic. Others have answered your questions, and if you want some useful apps, look at the "What's hot" and "Top 25 paid / free apps". You can also look at the apps in each category in order of how popular they are. Oh, you can download podcasts via the iTunes app now too :p

I thought so before, but jailbreaking an iPod and downloading the free apps from it is not illegal, although it is against the terms and conditions of Apple products. Unless a mod deems it otherwise

Surfing the web while listening to music kills the battery really fast.

It also causes browser crashes sometimes. It's as if... as if it doesn't want you to do both at the same time.

In regards to breaking the terms and conditions of use for the iPod (or anything actually). By accepting them you are essentially entering into a contractual agreement not to break the rules they set forth. Doing so can lead to discontinued service or a lawsuit against you... in theory, of course:P

True. I would have figured it was the ones distributing the cracked firmware and apps that Apple would have an issue with (and has been in the past). Apple attempt to stop the hacking of the iPod and iPhone firmware but in the end the iPhone Dev Team tends to find a way around it. I read an interview with a senior member of Apple, in which he said he was personally all for modifying thier products in search of creating something new, but unfortunately Apple has to ensure all steps are taken to prevent it due to the loss of money through lack of business in the App Store, aswell as the contracts they have with the phone networks
