So, I had a little interest in the film (I bought the first book a long time ago, but never read it) and planned on seeing it whenever it came out at the local theater, because the next theater is about... 40 miles away. And now I have come to find out that some local churches put out a petition for the film to not be shown at the local theater, and it worked. It's not so bad that I wanted to see it and it go banned from there, it's just that they are censoring a film, and making a scene. Now, these are the Christians who make other Christians look bad, the whiners. Why would people make such a big deal out of it. I know they kill a god-like figure in the book, but it's just a book, not real. It's not gonna change anyone's view on anything (unless they are easily manipulated).

it wasn't banned. They just petitioned not to have it shown. Semantics - I know. But there is a difference.

Well, they should try. It always seems like it's the churches protesting, but when they win and other's people's rights are taken away, they don't seem to do anything about it.

It's things like this that make me want to apologize...I have nothing against the film. It actually looks really cool. I think it's a little extreme to ban a work of fiction.

It's because it's a thinly veiled criticism of the Church. And it wasn't banned, the theater decided on it's own not to show it. Nobody made them do anything.

Thats really ****ed up.

the church shouldnt have a say in anything like that

and even if they do. Whats wrong with the movie, its just a fantasy movie like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Chronicles of Narnia.

I mean COME ON there is nothing wrong with any of the messages portrayed in those movies (except Lord of the Rings might be a bit violent for little kids)

As a Christian, this whole thing makes me crazy. Why...just why? Good grief, just don't watch the movie if you think it's evil. Don't ruin it for everybody that wants to see it...*sigh*...

anyone who wants to see the church's validity utterly destroyed should look up how the churches (both catholic and protestant) collaborated with the nazis to prepetuate the holocaust. they certainly didn't write up any petitions then, quite the contrary.

THETRUEDOZAH

The Catholic Church just sat there and watched as 6 Million "non-believers" were killed.

Exactly, if you can show more people want to see the film than not see it then you may get the theatres to show it. The topic title makes it sound as if they caused the theatre duress or something.

*****Spoiler*******

Well, I think it's cause the book basically says that God isn't really God, but just the first being in the universe to be aware.

The kids don't kill God, God is really old and gave all his power away so when they free him from his prison like protective barrier the atoms that make him up dissipate into the universe.

Though it's kinda sick that the christians can put out heavily propogandist movies based on really christian books like The Cronicles of Narnia, but when a fantasy book is made into a movie that disses the church and the religious conception of got and reason, they freak out and have it banned.

It would be nice if christians took a note from their lord and savior and STOPPED BEING SO FREAKING HIPOCRITCAL!

Sheesh, pharisees.

Refusing to allow others to watch a fantasy movie because it contradicts the beliefs you personally hold while lawding and freaking out about how great a fantasy movie that confirms your beliefs is, is hipocritical. It is saying that I am free to shove my beliefs in story form down others throats, but no one else with different beliefs is allowed to present their ideas in a fantasy movie.

Check out the section of the New Testament where Jesus rips the pharisees for being hipocrites, so no, I'm not being sarcastic.

I'm a Christian, and I'm noticing other Christians running certain things to the ground (such as this movie, Harry Potter, etc). While I don't agree with the movie and I won't go out and see it, I don't see why it's a big deal like they are making it. Some of the Christians running things to the ground are reading their own books that have subtle antibiblical statements just like these movies, and yet they don't notice.

Subtle? Subtle!?! Only if your are completely oblivious as to what the main tentaments of christianity are.

Hmm, king of the world/Narnia, namely Aslan is killed and then comes back to life to conquor the forces of evil. Now what does that remind me of...?

Thats not very subtle at all. It is a representation of when Christ died on the cross and rose again.
