I have to do an essay on 3 reason why people drop out of college, I have to list and explain those reasons.  The 3 reasons that I have are 1. Financial problems 2. Personal/family problems 3. They choose to quit and would rather work than go to school.  Do you guys think that those are three good points to make?  I'm not sure about the third one though but that's the only other one I can think of

1 can be countered with financial aid, loans, and grants 2 is ok and you can really argue that 3 is kind of wierd cause if you drop out of college it limits you to certain jobs cause statistically (i think) college graduates earn over 10k more per year than non graduates...you can run with number 3 though if you have support

Pregnancy, they don't go to class and fail out, aliens take them in their sleep on board their ship and take them to another galaxy for further research.

Why is it whenever you have homework, you look to the OT for ideas?

My 3 1. The course is not your type of thing. 2. The Uni sucks. 3. The return on the cost of the degree isn't worth it (not quite true, yet, and dependant on where you will work, but it's increasingly becoming the case). To add a slight 4th I genuinely think that some people aren't suited to University and would actually gain more (skills wise) by just working.

He wasn't kidding. College campuses are a great place for alien abductions. Because the students get so drunk from partying, they forget their tinfoil hats when they go to bed, leaving them vulnerable to alien mind control and abduction.

Exactly....never leave home with your tin foil
I actually saw a guy who made a metal "hat" for that reason.....he ended up killing his mother then himself....he must have forgotten his hat that day

When I was in college, most of my friends dropped out for the same reasons.   Most weren't prepared for college and partied too much.   When I say they weren't prepared, I mean They didn't expect that kind of workload and were used to getting A's with little or no effort in high school, but in college, they found it a struggle to keep a C.

If it was my essay I would choose: 1: Couldn't handle the pressures of balancing social life with the school workload 2: Students loans came due and they can't re-enroll until the loans are caught up 3: Personal problems (Family, health, etc.)

u could include ppl being hit with the reality that 'real life' is starting soon and college is the first thing you go thru that has a major impact on the rest of your life. that's not something everyone can handle...:?

Those are excellent points. I'm already thinking about quitting. It's just too much of the same. I'm tired of spending money on it. I don't feel like I'm advancing anymore, I don't really have any motivation or interest in the field. I already have a decent paying job... so yeah. I just don't have it in me anymore.

6.  Fratboys, drank themselves into bad grades, lost all their money on booze, and forgot to take the finals, thus severing any hope of passing the class.

Some guy over in Arizona, who was a Senior Journalism major, wrote an article on how the last four years of his life had been a job where he had made a negative salary.  He essentially dismissed the entire idea of going to college as worthless, because it was going to take him twice as long to pay for the debt he got in from student loans, unless he got an extremely good job right out of college, which almost never actually happens.  He apparently got expelled after writing the article.

Some people find jobs while in college and leave to take a full time job.

As mentioned before, financial strains or poor grades/performance alone or together may also contribute.  Family deaths or illness may also force someone to return home.

The most popular reason across the world so far has been returning to defend your homeland against hordes of evil swedish mercenaries.  Very common occurrence.
