Since the launch of I think 40" 3D TV's in US, apparently the costs will burn, not only a hole in your pocket, but your whole pants. 3D glasses- $600-700 EACH, TV's are really expensive and the range of movies are limited. Then again games could be sick in 3D, you wouldn't want to leave your lounge and you'd be one of the first to try it. If you ask me, i hopethis will be a flop. I only just bought a Samsung 40" LED TV and don't want it to be out dated any time soom. But I'm probably being selfish. What do you guys think- 3D TV the next best thing or something that will gather dust on your shelf.

-It most likely will flop, especially when you look at its ridiculous prices.

-Don't worry about your TV becoming outdated. The only thing I can see taking over LCD/Plasma is OLED technology (which is amazing stuff...Wonder why it didn't come out yet..)

I wouldn't be surprised; these aren't the same 3d glasses you get when you go to Avatar or any other 3d movie.

Ah, darn. I was about to sell the ones I got from Avatar on eBay for $300 each.

I'm sure you arent the only one :P

Here is a link that explains it a bit:

"Perhaps the biggest hurdle facing 3D TV at home, however, are the glasses necessary to view the programs. The goggles use battery-powered LCD lenses that are synchronized with the TV picture to create the illusion of 3 dimensions. And they can be costly: Panasonic includes only one pair of glasses with each set, for example. Additional pairs cost $150."

Not $700, but $150 for a pair of 3d glasses is still a ripoff.

Wow, that sucks. They even have different models. I see this as all one big fail.

If glasses are going to be THAT expensive, the whole 3D t.v. is going to be a complete failure.

The TV's themselves are really not that pricey and I'm pretty sure prices for all 3d components will come down eventually. $150 a pop for glasses not to mention yo have to buy a 3D blu ray player thats where the money pit is. I can actually see 3D TV being a bit more mainstream if and only the next gen gaming consoles are 3D compatible, kind of like how the PS3 made blu ray a bit more competitive.

I think 3D is stupid but in the future just but all TV will be 3D, its not going nowhere its here to stay.

Why would you want it to flop? Sure, it's expensive, but if more people invest in it the technology could improve and the amount of films and television stations in 3-D would increase while the prices for glasses and TVs would decrease. What, are you some sort of third-dimension Luddite?

You could still watch regular stuff on it, the 3D is just a fancy option, but yeah I wont be buying it til another decade or so.

You don't even have to hope. This WILL be a flop, because it's so insanely expensive and impractical that it is NOT catching on.

Yes, you mentioned that the TVs themselves are expensive. Not catching on until they get cheap enough for the average bum to afford.

And then there are the glasses. The glasses NEED to go, or there's no chance in hell of this catching on. For one thing, people do not want to have to wear tht **** just in order to be ableto watch the damn television. Secondly, the glasses themselves are expensive as hell. Thirdly, even if you keep a spare pair of 3D glasses on you at all times in the off chance that you end up at someone else's home watching someone else's TV, odds are that your glasses will not work with their TV.

Not happening, unless some SERIOUS issues get resolved.

By the time you buy it, there will already be something else new to replace it. :P

Meh, that's what they said about the computer. Nobody was going to buy a 10k+ computer.
And only a few businesses did. Then afterwards it became cheaper to make, and prices fell.
Doubtless the same will be the case for 3D technology in general.

The 3D Tv technology is still new and they need to buy the glasses to watch in 3d. Yet, it's pricey to buy this one and we gonna pay more in order to watch this in 3d. 3D Tv are still as a conventional Tv if you're watch without them. If there any improvement of this tech, there would be definitely you can watch it without using the glasses like the nintendo 3ds.

Computers are a useful tool. 3D television at these kinds of prices...notso much. Even if you own a sports bar and count on 3D TV as being a worthy investment which could help you to make money, that's sort of pointless if there's a lack of 3D BROADCASTS. Which isn't going to hasppen unless enough people buy 3D TVs.

At least with an expensive-as-hell computer, one person could write programs for it which will enable him to earn more money. Can we do that with 3D televisions? What are the business advantages of spending that kind of money on a television?

Sounds like a terrible idea, and this is even coming from someone who really likes 3D movies at the cinema. I really hope it flops.
