What exactly do you want to animate anyway? The more specific you are, the better I should think. Sorry cant help btw, im a c4d person myself.-kaz3-
I don't really know. I've wanted to start out with some simple character animations or weapons (eg. guns). Environments tend to be harder, so I'd do them when I'm a little more skilled.

I found some nice looking character pics. But i couldn't find any tutorials :?
Also, are there any sites that are character tutorials only (beginner). Cause most of the other ones are kinda scattered.
I found a GREAT set of tutorials that will guide you through the process of modeling, texturing, animating, and compiling a Glock 18 gun in 3ds max and it will even show you how to put it into Counter Strike. Even if you do not want to design a gun for CS:S, this is still a great tutorial to get comfortable with way 3ds max works. It is also very newb friendly.
Part I
Part II
Part III
WARNING:This is a LONG tutorial that is comprised of multiple hours of videos.
I followed this tutorial and it helped me ALOT. I only did the first 2 parts though, so I do not know about the integrity of part 3.
I hope this helps :).

Thanks I'll check it out :)
I've got a quick question for some of the more experienced animators. Is character modeling a good place to start? I've already managed to create an apple, a space scene, and some furry creature from the Max tutorials. I just wanna know if I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself.I_pWnzz_YoU
Nope, as long as you keep practicing, your good. I use Lightwave 3-D and have been for about 10 years now. Keep doing tutorials, buy some books and some dvd videos. Some may cost a lot, but they're a lot better than the free tutorials online IMO.

Sweet thanks for clearing that up.
