What are some good movies from that time period, in English? also, no reccomendations for Gone with the wind, Casablanca, or Wizard of Oz, they're pretty famous already. I hope for great noir movies like 'The Big Sleep' and '12 Angry Men'. also, i prefer if they're in black and white.

The Third Man (1949) is a great film noir. Hitchcock's Shadow Of A Doubt (1943) is also fantastic.

North by Northwest. Sort of a bourne identity without the phoney fight sequences and it has a little comic relief. Hitchkocks best movie IMO, and that's saying something cause he's made a lot of classics

Paths of Glory by Stanley Kubrick ('57) is one of the greatest war movies of all time.

High Society, excellent film with great music. Seven Samurai, Japanese with English subtitles, a masterpiece of a movie. Magnificent Seven, inspired from Seven Samurai, a very good western.
Singing in the Rain, cute film that's timeless, especially the songs. Silent movies are good to watch, they may be very camp to younger generations, but they really are very good. Cary Grant movies are great as well as James Cagney movies.

Hi All, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am looking for the name of a movie from the early 60s, if I'm not mistaken. The movie is about a very popular rock singer who becomes the president, and decides that all adults over the age of 35 are too old so he sends them to special camps to die. It was a color film, with some very catchy songs, but for the life of me I can't recall its name. Does anybody remember such a movie??

I recommend checking out Alfred Hitchcock films, like Rear Window, Vertigo and Psycho. Also check out some Stanley Kubrick, like Dr. Strangelove, Lolita and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Other films I would recommend: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Singin' in the Rain, To Kill a Mockingbird, and many other films.... Just look around a bit and you'll find a lot of great films.

I don't watch movies from that era. The acting style during the period is very off-putting, but here's my two-cents: On The Waterfront The Searchers (best Western of all time, alongside The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) Psycho From Russia With Love (best Bond movie)

Vertigo is my favorite movie of all time. I'd recommend any other Hitchcock movie along with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's a Wonderful Life, Anatomy of a Murder, etc.
