"What is this world coming to".

These kinds of things always happened. Now we have a world wide network of reporting media that allows us to see all these events unfold almost as soon as they happen. Human nature hasn't changed, we just get to see it more starkly and in the open than ever before.

Sometimes shit like this gets me thinking, would it be easier to be the one people are scared of or be the one scared of people? Sometimes I just want to find someone who has killed or has hurt other people and take them out so that I can make my mark and be the one with power for once.

While I condemn everything that's happening in this world right now, I'm inclined to notice a few discrepancies here and there. When 512 children got killed in Gaza, they were human shields.. right.

When 132 children got brutally massacred in Pakistan, it was just another day in the Middle East.

When 8 children got killed in Australia, the whole world is mourning.

Help me understand this.

If he had killed them with a gun, the only thing the left wingers would be talking about today, is that we need to ban "teh evil NRA", and "teh evil guns".

But because he used a knife , it's not even being talked about very much on the liberal news stations (ABC,NBC,CBS, CNN, CNN HEADLINE, MSNBC, NPR, and PBS.)

Well, it's kinda expected that there be shit in a shit hole, not in a developed country.

The NRA is really shady, suggest you do some reading on the subject...

Me saying it nicely wouldn't make it any less true.

We expect these things from the middle east, and we see things like this frequently, because it's a violent, hyper religious, poorly educated place.

Things like this are rare by comparison in developed countries.

So expecting this kind of stuff automatically makes it alright? shouldn't that still be condemned?

That's truly horrible but what makes it worse is to know that they were stabbed to death. That's not an easy way to go.

Australia can't even blame this on violent games either, damn.

I got your point. But isn't it the duty of the media to at least condemn these kind of actions regardless of where they happened?

Who, what, when, where, why and how. That's the media's job. Too bad the media itself forgets that and goes for the entertainment/eyballs/clicks headlines.

Quite frankly, OT (and people in general) seem to forget that too.

Certain members of this community are almost gleeful, whenever something awful happens in the middle east.

We as a species need a common goal to work towards. We are so caught up in our petty differences and quest for wealth and power that some people turn to crime and murder. If everyone was working towards a singular purpose I think we'd see far less violence and killing from individuals. This is why I try to push so hard for scientific exploration. Imagine if the whole world got together and decided to create something fantastic. Instead of spending money of war and killing we would be spending it on creation. Of course bringing parts of the world where laws keep the civilizations there in a 10th century mindset to the modern world might be rather difficult.

what?

8 people is very little relative to how many people live in Australia. So no there is no reason to be worried about this.

It's terrible news but that doesn't mean you have to panic and lock yourselves up in a bunker.
