Wow, using a taser on an 8 year old? That seems a bit excessive, to say the least.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
So basically they have a horrible little daughter and now the parents are kicking up a fuss about her being tased? Maybe it was an overreaction on the officers part but the way the parents are justifying it worries me greatly for that childs future (and makes you question her past considering she was threatening to kill herself at age 8)
I can't be a judge on whether the officer should or shouldn't have used a taser on the girl, it heavily depends on the context. The officer may very well have used excessive force when he decided to deploy the taser but the shit parents have much more important things to worry about other than demanding "disciplinary actions". A suicidal 8 year old girl who stabbed herself in the leg wtf? Did those parents pay attention to this little nugget of detail? Talk about the need for a reality check.
To me the more I think about it, the less sense this all makes. The parents claim that she was simply acting out, so their definition of acting out is stabbing yourself in the leg and threatening to do it again? 1 thing's for certain, that child needs to go to a psychologist ASAP.
We should be asking the parents why the fvck their 8 year old is suicidal
We can say **** now.
How can the parents possibly be upset at the officer? he quite possibly saved their daughter's life, and they're mad that she got a little shock?
lol, oops. blank post.
anyway, I think the real issue is that there's a suicidal 8 year old girl here.
Like, what do you have to do to an 8 year old to make them that way?

I fucking saw someone else use it. >_>
Did anyone read where the girl pointed the knife at an officer? The girl has some serious problems if she is attempting to stab herself and threatening police. The parents need to get her help fast, before the state takes and admits her to the psyche ward at the state hospital.
Yeah, that's a pretty tough one to judge. I think it was the right move though. What else would have happened, she would have friggin' stabbed herself or something, who knows! It's not like he pulled his gun or something.
It's intense, but I think it was a good move. Parents should be thankful.
Normally I have serious issues with stories about cops tazing people that they could easily overwhelm physically (children, old people, etc), but that's when the cops are being "attacked". I have no problem when the cops are tazing a little kid to keep the kid from committing suicide.
In that case, I completely agree with the cop. If he would've let the girl commit suicide, then the parents would be mad about that.
Cop made the right call.
But I do feel kind of bad for the girl. 8 years old? What the hell is going on in her life...what the hell is going on with her parents...
This cop in particular did the right thing. Most cops would have just used their gun as an excuse to end the situation quicker. I can't believe the audacity of the parents wanting compensation for a situation that would not have occured if they were good parents in the first place.
So 3 grown men cant even handle an 8 yr old child who is clearly distressed and needs help, crooked ass cops i would shoot the 3 of them if it was my decision.
They did handle her, dummy. She's alive and safe. Do you honestly see how easily things could have grown wrong if those 3 grown men had decided to try to physically restrain a disturbed 8 year old with a knife involved?
Too many people are simply ignorant as to how a tool like a Taser can be used to defuse a situation and make it safer.
Typical pro police response, i guess i should have expected no less really. You're wrong, if 3 grown men cant get a small 8 yr old child physically under control by hand then they shouldnt even be cops in the first place, cowards like them need to feel big and powerful by shocking a child its disgraceful at the absolute best.
The child was clearly in distress and needed help, so you and the police both think the appropriate response is to electrocute the child, you really think this is acceptable and the right solution to a very sensitive problem??
I only hope you dont have kids for the love of god.

And why she has access to a knife in the first place, especially if she has acted out in the past. Who is to blame here? The dumbass parents.
The parents should be much more worried about the actions of the child than the police officer.
As for the police officer he seems to have taken the least bad choice in a situation with no good choices.

So, say you're a cop. You start coming toward the girl who is holding a knife and...lo and behold, she cuts herself.
Good job, asshole.
yeah this was the only appropriate response in this situation this way the girl didn't hurt herself or anyone else.

Instead of saying they acted poorly. Why not say what they should have done?
If it hasn't been done already I would suggest removing the child from the home until authorities can figure out what is going on with her. The parents are either too dumb or too greedy (lawsuit) to see that the police officer may have saved her life. Another thing to consider is what if the officer tried to tackle her instead and in the process she cut an artery on herself or the police officer.
seems like he helped her not harm herself, I don't see what's wrong here other than there being a suicidal 8 year old girl
When I read the title, I expected to come here to say "WTF" but reading the story, it sounds like a pretty reasonable solution to a bad situation.
