This flu outbreak works similarly to the Spanish flu pandemic that killed 100 million people in 1918. It doesn't appear to affect children and the elderly like traditional influenza, but rather goes for healthy young adults.

The disease may have spread to Europe.

Canada wasn't mentioned once in the article. Obviously, this means the Canadian government is behind this. :o

"Several people" out of 1,300, 81 of them dead, is not an overrreaction, especially when there are calls to raise pandemic alert level.

dang, it is horrible to hear this. i think people are a bit over reacting about it. i'm not worried until i hear it has broken out in the entire US. this reminds me of china around 2002 or around there with sars. a lot of people died from it.

I'm not particularly worried. A majority of the deaths have been in areas with low standards of living and lax medical care. According to CNN and like news sources, Americans aren't dieing in large numbers from it.

It better not spread up here to Michigan. I cannot deal with that crap. I have no health insuranceATM and I have pretty strong asthma which makes me getting ANY flu very dangerous....

People who die from the flu are usually infants or the elderly. When you have 81 healthy adults dying in within a day or two then there is definitely a cause to be worried.

Oh, haha. This is how I generally live my life. ;) I have a few friends, I keep them close, I consider them my best friends. I know many other people but don't hang out with them... And generally speaking sometimes I'll go weeks without physically interacting with the people who I do consider friends. And I am not afraid. I've never even had the flu... Been around plenty of people who have before, my immune system pwns.

As opposed to the United States where, as the article tells, Tamiflu and Relenza can be easily acquired to cure cases.

In all, this is about as scary as walking around and suddenly realizing your socks don't match.

That's not little - the disease is still young too.

Anyway, I won't get too worried about it, most of these deaths are in Mexico particularly the areas with poorer health care.

Exactly.

You get the flu, your life sucks for a week, you take care of yourself, and if you need Relenza or Tamiflu initially, then you get it. If you feel your chest becoming more and more congested, see your physician for nebulizer treatments and possibly antibiotics with some mucinex. Take some Motrin or Tylenol for any fever. Stay hydrated and take care of yourself.

Geez, it's like no one here has had the flu before.
