Wow, time went by quick these years...2001-2011 ten years later. What was your first reaction when you first saw what was happening?

My reaction 10 years ago I was in elementary school, I lived near the pentagon, I did not know what was going on, all I saw was smoke, but I just wanted to go home to my family, and just relax, it was not until the news was mentioning what was going on in new york all those years ago.

I was driving to work at a mall, and just pulled in when the second plane hit (they were talking about it on a talk show on the radio). I hurried in to work and put a radio behind the counter so that I could listen. Had to work until noon when they finally closed the mall. Somewhat related - I just put a photo and entry in my blog of the twin towers that I took before it happened.

I didn't understand it at first, but that was because we had very few details at the time I found out. I first thought that it was an accident, but after finding out that both WTC towers were hit, I was terrified. I had hoped that the terrorists weren't canadians and that it wouldn't spark a war; at least one of those wishes came true. :P

Indifference. It seemed to be a world away to me.

I'm actually surprised it's been ten years already.

I had no idea what was going on at the time, considering I was six. I barely remember the day, save for we were let out of school early.

Yeah, I was in elementary school also, so it didn't really affect me much. I saw part of it happening on the morning news, but I think that's before anyone knew that it was a plane that hit the building, so my mom still sent me off to school. There was some sort of an announcement over the PA system and everyone in the entire school had to go out into the hallway for a VERY long moment of silence. I think they also played the Star Spangled Banner. So as of now, I'm sort of indifferent. There are horrible people in this world, but there's really nothing we can do about it. I kind of feel bad for not caring that much, but really, what is there to do? On a similar note, the have this pretty neat memorial they are creating at ground zero.

I was just starting high school myself when it was announced on the radio that a plane had hit one of the Twin Towers, like everyone else, I didn't believe it at first and thought it was just a joke, but after turning on the television and seeing the carnage, I was utterly shocked at what happened, but I had to forget about it that day because I had to worry about school. To this day it still shocks me that something like that happened and it's even harder to believe it's been 10 years since that fateful day.

I actually live in Brooklyn, and I didn't really know what went on. Then again, I was only 6 back then, and I guess I couldn't comprehend it. I feel indifferent about it, anyway.

I was pretty sure the Patriot Act made it illegal to talk about 9/11 ? :P

but yeah, its been 10 years and we are still shaking in our boots over some threats by some dudes in caves, secret prisons are still open, and we still torture detainees even when it means getting bad intel. Go Jesus. USA #1.

I was 5 when it happened, so I don't remember anything.

What do I feel right now? Indifference, nothing's really changed for me.

I was six when it happened, so I never knew about it until I grew more aware of the world around me.

I guess you could say that I feel indifferent about the events.

I was 14. Remember hearing about it in school. Went home and watched news coverage the entire day. That's probably the point in my life when I started to think seriously about politics. Honestly though I hate how the US is making a huge deal about this anniversary. I'll be happy when today has finally passed and people just stop talking about it. Time to move on.

I was in study hall at the time (9th grade). Someone came running into the room saying that a helicopter crashed into New York, so we turned on the old giant TV on a cart. We sat watching as the one tower burned and then saw the second plane hit. My mom went to my school and tried to take me out saying that "there are 500 planes still in the air and unaccounted for" to which I replied, "why would they want to crash one of them here" and I stayed at school to watch everything and talk about it with friends. The next class however, my teacher shut off all the TV's and tried to teach, but you can't concentrate when crazy stuff like that is happeneing. Like others have stated though, it's definitely time to move on. The commercialization of this 10 year anniversary is pretty sickening.

I was teaching my third period class of eighth graders when the principal announced on the intercom for us to turn on our TVs. We saw one tower on fire and witnessed the plane crashing into the second tower. I guess NY seemed too far away for many of them to grasp what was going on. A few didn't care. In fact, one girl told me to turn it because it was boring. Yep, sadly, that's the first memory I have of what I was doing at that very moment. I was pissed at her. We had the TV on all day in the room while we continued to "work" on our projects, every teacher did. A few of the teachers said they were gonna stock up on supplies and gas because prices were gonna spike and there would be a gas shortage. Of course there wasn't, but that didn't stop me from filling up. When I got home, I called my best friend who is in the army at the time and discussed the possibility of him going overseas. Three days later, he was married and had his first child on the way. Talk about life a life changing experience. One silver lining for me is that I had a chance to meet a very nice young man due to the tragedy. A new student who moved from New York, named Charles. His parents decided to move because they had ties to that small rural community and didn't feel safe anymore. Charles was sweet, intelligent and had a heart of gold. He had actually taken a field trip to the twin towers the very day before. That little town was where I had my first teaching experience, a cesspool of a town, really. But I will always remember some of the students, like Charles, who made it easier to work there.

I was watching stuff on it today and I was shocked. I never saw anything when it happened because I was young and my mum didn't want me to see people jumping out of buildings.

Just an ordinary day really. I was pretty young when it happened so a normal day consisted of school and watching TV. Kind of sad but it didn't effect me.

Whoa, some of you make me feel old, and make me realize just how long its been. A lot of you guys here probably don't remember the day that much. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 16 and sitting in english class when we heard about the planes hitting. My classmate's father died in the attacks. He was a firefighter. In my neighborhood, if you didn't lose someone, you know someone who did. One of my favorite memories as a child, is when my parents were going out, and left me and my sister with my grandparents. Out of nowhere, my grandfather said "lets go to the Twin Towers!" We got in his Buick and drove to the Manhattan. We went up to the roof of the building, and the view was unbelievable. I felt so amazing in that moment. The image is still burned in my brain to this day. I'm personally over the events, but I'm not going to tell people to just "get over it." It was an incredibly traumatic event for a lot of people. My girlfriend's step father lost his best friend, brother and father in the attacks, and has never been the same since. Thats a REAL issue for him to deal with, and nobody has the right to tell him to just "get over it." I do think what the media does with 9/11 is despicable though.

Oh and I think I should add that in the end, the events(most likely) were planned by the Government. This has been debated over the years, and it's just the truth. Hard to explain. You have to believe that like some believe in God.

Oh and the fact that al-Qaeda first denied the attack, and a few years later claimed to have done it, sounds like the USG wanted to get the incident potentially off their back.

Arthur96
Oh God, not this again. Listen, if you want to talk about conspiracy theories, make a new topic, don't go trolling in here. @InterpolWilco - I think for some people, it's difficult for them to feel anything about the event because they weren't affected by it. I didn't lose anyone, nor do I know anyone who did, so I find it really hard to try to feel anything about it now.

I guess the terrorist won. They wanted us to always live in fear and never forget what they did and guess what? People will not move on and let it go. I am tired of hearing about it. I am also tired of hearing about Katrina, flooding, Japanese earthquakes, and conference realignment in football. Why Americans do not have the will to move on from a bump in the road is beyond me. Everyone around the world is going to CNN.com and Yahoo and seeing us cry and hang our heads down because of something that happened 10 years ago..................and they love it. They are glad we are still in pain over it. But keep bringing it up like your life will never be the same. Show how week we actually are.

Does anyone else find it weird that the main topic of discussion is the fact that a couple buildings collapsed 10 years ago and not the fact that the earth has moved 1,500,000,000km since then?

My reaction? Disgust at how more soldiers have lost their lives than people died in the original attack fighting an unnecessary war against an ideology. I hate when a government and politicians use a nation's grief to forward their lust for conquest and control.

No kidding this dwelling on the events is ridiculous all to raise ratings..

It's incredibly convenient, whenever it's a slow news day you can spend the news reminiscing about a day that was not a slow news day several years ago.

Its pretty sickening too when right off our coast in Haiti due to funds never really reaching the country after a dieaster that dwarfed anythign coming close to 9/11 in death and destruction people are still dieing from Cholera outbreaks and other such things due to still living in shanty towns.. I have no problem with having a moment of silence, but thats all that should be..Now it seems to be something close to be idolizing it..

I'd say that's already happened. It is their entire basis for fighting against "terror."
