Equilibrium I'd say. Only 80,000 listeners on last.fm? What a load of crap. >.>

The term underrated in music, is one of the most miss-used terms, along with"sell-out." Just because no one has heard or listened to a band you like does not make them underrated (and I am not refering to anyone in this thread just putting it out there :P ). Underrated are bands who have justifiedthemselves as being more than just a band with fans, its not about a popularity contest... With that said, I will say that The Flaming lips are some what underrated. Another 90's band would be The Verve. Though they are not my favorite or greatest band in the world.
Last.fm doesn't count as the world though.Nifty_Shark
But I'm comparing it to the amount of listeners of other bands, most high quality bands have at least 150k. 80k is a kick to the bawlz.

Underrated does not mean popularity. A popular band could very well be more underrated than a band with a quarter of its listeners.[QUOTE="Nifty_Shark"]Last.fm doesn't count as the world though.RobboElRobbo

Just use it to your advantage when or if they become better known. Then you can put everybody down and tell them "I was here first and all of you bow to me for knowing about the band before you posers." :P

Faith No More jumps out at me. Everyone of their albums was great, and I think they had a big influence on much of 90's rock/alt. music.btaylor2404Aww man how could i forget Faith No More, though I wouldn't say they are "underrated" but they are highly respected and highly influenctial. Under-appreciated by fans isa better term imo, but fantastic band either way. :P

First person to ever guess what it was. *Giggles* :PThat's a lot.. I have bands with 27 listeners and 100 plays (Nephridium). :P There's not too many artists that I think need more popularity. I can tell that the extensive touring by bands who have a large fanbase can take away from their sound. Nebukadnezar is the only one that really sticks out for me. They only have an EP out currently (released last year), but it's a damn fine EP and they really need more recognition for it.Equilibrium I'd say. Only 80,000 listeners on last.fm? It isn't a lot considering the studio quality is some of the best I've ever heard. I was expecting to see about 120,000 at least.

I stopped listening to that kind of folk metal awhile ago but I remember the production on Sagas pretty average. The keys really dominated the mix which is a huge turn off for me. Turis Fratyr was a bit better though I think. If I'm going to look at underappreciated bands of the past I'd certainly pop the Young Gods as one from the 90's (their 'golden era'). If I'm delving back a little further I'll throw in Gang of Four, who influenced many a band from Nirvana to the Chilli Peppers, arguably setting down the foundation for punk funk.
The Screaming Trees, in my opinion deserved to bigger than they were, and although critical acclaimed I don't think Mark Lanegan receives the popularity he deserves.
I ordered Sparky Deathcap's new EP, got it a few days ago, and I think it's absolutely criminal that this guy isn't all the rage in the indie community right now. If you like depressing, mostly-acoustic music, I don't think you can not like Sparky Deathcap.
You listen to music during movies...?
Eden synthetic corps should be a lot more popular in the industrial scene, while Miguel and the living dead should be more popular in the batcave scene.
They're way more popular than they should be. And there are tons of mainstream metal bands... Korn, Slipknot... that garbage.
Linkin Park. It is always getting verbally bashed on GS:Poptiow
They have 1.9mill listeners on last.fm...

Korn and slipknot aren't the kinds of metal i'm talking about. Quite the opposite actually.[QUOTE="RobboElRobbo"][QUOTE="FrostyPhantasm"]*Hides in fort* I think a band like Bring Me the Horizon, would be a good stepping stone band for Deathcore and overall metal to become slightly mainstream (which would make 90% of metal fans super rage but they'll get over it) and with the interest peaked, i'll be able to listen to music i like during movies instead of hearing an all Led Zeppelin/ACDC soundtrack.FrostyPhantasm

See soundtracks.Only movie I can think of with ACDC is Maximum Overdrive. Also are you saying that some day we'll hear deathcore in movies?
Linkin Park. It is always getting verbally bashed on GS:Poptiow
1. You're verbally bashed for a good reason. Linkin Park is terrible.
2. Linkin Park is OVERrated. You're just too caught up in your mainstream garbage to see that.
On topic, Vital Remains should be way more popular. I mean, they're amazing but very few people know about them.
