He wasn't old and it was really sudden. It's really upsetting. I don't know what to do about it. Have you guys ever had anyone close to you suddenly die?

My father died when I was 9. The next few months or so felt like some kind of dream I was going to wake up from.

Have you had a chance to really sit down and talk with your friend yet? How's he doing?

OT is full of sadness and death lately :( An acquaintance of mine's dad died of a heart attack while they were vacationing in mexico a year or two ago, right after christmas. I've never had anything like that happen to me, I actually tend to avoid getting close to anyone so that when they die it won't hurt me. What a terrible way to live. Death and loss is something I just cannot deal with, I'll be really screwed when the situation actually comes up that I lose somebody I really care about.

She's doing ok. I haven't had a chance to go by her house. I'm more worried about her brother. He and his dad weren't on the best terms when he died and I'm sure that's got to be hard for him.

My best friends ex GF (They were really close) died all of a sudden, he just went South from there, he took it really really hard and it pretty much ended our friendship and we had been best friends since Kindergarten (We just don't talk anymore, no fight or anything we just ceased communication) , some people just take the death of a loved one really hard and there isn't much you can do, but just try your best to be there for them and go out of your way to talk to them because they will rarely be looking for your sympathy. I made the mistake of not trying my best to talk to him, and it pretty much cost me a friend.

My uncle died of cancer about 4 years ago. It was all so sudden-he was extremely healthy and well-built, but I guess the amount of stress he had in life gave him that illness.

Yeah one of my best friends/neighbors of 15 years that I grew up with died a few months back. I never thought I'd be going to his funeral. It was strange. One day we're having some beers at lunch. A few days later, boom, dead. :?

No. Closest I've ever been was last semester when I was doing my rotation in hospice I saw a patient take their last breath. While I didn't know the person too well it still shook me up a little bit.

Yeah, I've lost both grandparents on my mom's side, and my grandfather on my dad's side.

Best you can do for the both of them is be there for them and be understanding. Let them talk as much as they need to about things.

Make sure your there for your friend. He will need you the most right now as that is one of the most terrible things to happen.
