Alcohol is illegal in many countries. Why am I allowed to talk about it and not get moderated?

Other drugs, which I will not mention by name, happen to be legal in many countries, and decriminalized in others, as well as several US states.

Why is there a pro-alcohol bias on this forum?

That's because US law permits private institutions to regulate what can and cannot be said under their jurisdiction. ;) The First Amendment applies only to the public sphere; Gamespot is a private business.

cause that's the way GS wanted to make it.

and i believe we are allowed to talk about drugs(illegal ones), just not about using them.

The first amendment is part of the US constitution, but is not obseved here on GS.

The first amendment prohibits Congress from making a law that prohibits the right to free speech.

As far as I know, GameSpot has not coerced Congress into making such a law.

For medicinal use, yes.

Not recreational, although if I recall correctly there is a proposition this year to make it legal in such a case as well.

Congress did not make the rule that prohibits free speech, but GameSpot did. I'm not saying GS broke any law, just that it's not keeping with the spirit of the 1st amendment regarding prohibition of free speech. I also find it ironic that GS is based in California. The upcoming vote should be interesting.

What "spirit" of the first amendment has GameSpot breached? The entire purpose of the Constitution is to define the American government and to provide what it can and cannot do. The Constitution is not, nor was it ever intended to be, applicable to anything private. The founding fathers did want not someone to be able to be locked up for an opinion that they may hold, but they similarly did not want to prevent a private establishment from being able to kick someone to the curb who is being a nuisance. That would be a violation of the liberties of the private establishment.

I believe it is, or trying to be. A lot of talk about that here on the East Coast.

EolGul2

Because in the USA, it is socially acceptable to use alcohol.

And really...that's about all there is to it. There's a pro-alcohol bias on this forum because the majority of the people on this forums live in places where it is socially acceptable to consume alcohol. Therefore, alcohol is good while marijuana is bad.

Not that I am against alcohol. I LOOOOOOOOVE alcohol. But it can be a horrible and deadly drug. I'm all for alcohol use, but I'm totally against a culture in which abuse of alcohol is considered to be socially acceptable if not normal.
