I just think I couldn't concieve it or live without it.

Sure, we can prove and hypothesise a lot of the world and universe around us, but in the end, I think humanity would just crumble without religion. In the depths of darkness from war, famine, pestilence and mass poverty & destruction. When the powers that be of our nation's can only sit and watch, it makes me worried that if we didn't have a belief in a higher entity then things would be very much different from now.

Personally and probably for a lot out there, religion can be tool to ground oneself. If it wasn't for Christianity, I don't think I'd be the fine upstanding individual that I am today. Religion, not law kept me in line. Not from the consequences from when I die which deferred me from taking the criminal path at a young age but Jesus' self-sacrifice made me see how selfish and hurtful I would've been.

I think there are other examples of where religion helps me but I've been typing this from 10 minutes and I'm getting kinda getting tired, plus the Manchurian Candidate is on. :P

I just wanted to vent my opinion here amid the Atheist threads.

I live fine without it, and I don't see why spiritual religion has to be the source of hope during trying times.

Religion creates the wars, ignorance and hinders progress. To an extent it creates racism, alond with nationalism it really needs to go away.

Religion has caused more death than any other single issue in the history of the world. I can live fine without it. But if you must have it to have hope and order, congratulations, you do.

I have absoluetely no problem if people use religion to better their personal lives. I do have a problem when they use religion to make themselves seem better than other people just because one's religion is superior to another. So as long as you view me, a person who doesn't go to church, on the same level playing field as someone who does have religion, we'll be fine.

Religion never created morals, nor should it dictate them. Organized religion has done a more to seperate than unite throughout history...

IT IS NOT RELIGION THAT SAVES THE WORLD FROM DOOM IN YOUR EYES ITS THE MORALS THAT STOP WAR etc. Most religion have basically the same morals, be good to others, treat others like you like to be treated, honour superiors etc. I live without religion but I live with morals

Acting nice and doing good things only out of fear of hell is a terrible reason. If humans can't behave without religion then we deserve to go extinct.

Sorry to burst your bubble but 600+ years ago religion was the cause of most wars,so thanks for starting something evil when religion is suppose to be the opposite (most of em anyways)

Btw if you want to be a better person all you have to do is respect and honor your fellow human beings.

Every attempt at ethics has its critics. There is no infallible concept to date. Utilitarianism, Nietzche's conception, categorical imperitives, are all contentious and flawed. If you took an ethics class maybe you would know that.

Oh come on. You're sick of that argument? Well I'm 10x more sick of the "OMG Stalin was atheist" argument. They didn't kill anyone because of their lack of beliefs. In fact they all made people worship them. Effectively making themselves "Gods." No one kills anyone in the name of disbelief in God. That's ridiculous.

Even if a mindless, godless, amoral Darwinian process is at the root of everything, we can still embrace morality, ethics, love, and beauty.

I think some of us tend to attribute far too many positive human traits to religious influence, while at the same time making the assumption that by removing religion from the human equations those postive traits will lack foundation and crumble as a result. I disagree.
