3. Surah Ale-Imran (The Family of Imran)

106. On the Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) when some faces will become white and some faces will become black; as for those whose faces will become black (to them will be said): "Did you reject Faith after accepting it? Then taste the torment (in Hell) for rejecting Faith."

107. And for those whose faces will become white, they will be in Allah's Mercy (Paradise), therein they shall dwell forever.

How do you interpret this?

By "faces turning white," it is meant they're expressing joy; by black, sorrow. I think that's pretty obvious.

there is already enough homophobia, sexism, brutality, and general misanthropy in the quran, that I dont think "racism" is a necessary component for us all to condemn the book as a despicable piece of literature. it would be like if you found out that there were newly discovered sections in the Mein Kampf that addressed the proper procedures for sexually assaulting small, woodland creatures. its redundant at best, overkill at worst.

Black/White, Bad/Good. It's not that hard to figure out. One of Muhammad's closest friends was black, Bilal I think.

wait, you're telling me a religious book has the same sexist and racist views as the general population of that certain society around the time it was written. My god, it's almost like it was written by man, and not a divine being.

lol,as someone said it obviously refers to the contrast between bad and good, most of muhammad's fellows were actually black, you need to read about such sensitive matters before making a new thread about them.

Thats correct, Bilal, a black man, was the man behind the call to prayer. The focal part of muslim life; what is recited before every prayer five times a day. The verse is obviously referring to good and bad and not skin, black people are a MASSIVE portion of the muslim community and play a big part in its history. The TC has a very basic thought process and this thread is a joke.

This reminds me of when the 'black holes' term was deemed racist. Talk about being a stinker in life.

Damn! You got through all the trouble reading this verse to only find out whether it's racist or not???? I would read some of Agatha Christie's books if I were you, worth spending time on after all!

Black people are going to hell and white people are going to paradise? Well we can't be crowded in one place, after all.

"Black" here has nothing to do with skin color; it's a reference to condemned sinners who are frightened on the Day of Judgement. Similarly, the white faces are those of righteous people with content hearts.

Also, the verse only talks about those whose faces will becomeblack.
