If I may ask, what was the "old" OT like? I was reading a thread and some one mentioned that they want to see the old OT rise up again.

About the only difference is the moderations were less strict. There were more entertaining users that have disappeared over the years too. The actual topics were pretty similar though.
people weren't worried about being cool, and were just there, and sort of acted like themselves, which just made for a funnier atmosphere. People just portrayed more of a internet personality, if that is even possible :lol:Spicy-McHaggis
Translation= Teh Geeks left and kool was back 8)
It was exactly what it is now, except the rules were a little more slack, and there were a few more posters with less generic personalities. But they all got banned. Now everyone just sits around reminiscing about the good ol' days, instead of actually trying to do something about it. :)AngelofDeath213People still try, but they get banned for such VILE acts. I smell the New OT Order, nOTo, coming in to play!!!
It was funnier, happier, sillier, safer. Now you can't call PETA members or scientologists loons without getting modded... :|JustPlainLucasWell the truth hurts, PETA! *cowers and waits for moderatoin*
Mods let a decent amount of things slide and mingled with regular users on a frequent basis back in ye olden days.
And by "Ye Olden Days" I mean '06
There were a lot of memorable funny threads. Bunch of fads that the moderators are so strict on. And many entertaining users now banned.
The '06 days were awesome and full of win. Regulars with personality, mods actually posted in threads, and it was more lax. This is what happened to OT since then.the_foreign_guy

You also get a lot of hypocrisy these days as well. Moderations galore.Well if you're talking really old OT, like 1998 to 2001 or so, you had KarlB_Darkplayer, RyanTheGod, Solidgame_basic, sniper_basic, RustyX_basic, and a few other honorable mentions who really kept the forums going. LJ is still here, but he's one of the very very few. I'm trying to remember what the old format of the forums was called, before they switched to this format like 6 years ago...I think they were called the Lithium forums. Anyways, there were a lot fewer people, everyone knew eachother, the mods were cool and not nearly as strict. There were plenty of Conan O'brien and Chuck Norris threads (I'm still convinced that the Chuck Norris fad was started right here in 2000 or so by RyanTheGod). Also, the 'would you hit it' threads were still allowed, so those were great fun. All in all it was just smaller, there were fewer people, fewer rules, fewer political and religious threads, and a lot more fun.
Funnier & most importantly better topics.btaylor2404Hehe, indeed. Also, fad threads were of great taste. 8)

I forgot to mention you in my above post. You're probably one of the only people here that remembers some of what I'm referencing. It's strange that "old" OT to people these days is 2006. I had already tried to quit these forums, and failed, many times before then.
it was all daisys and butterflies. We each had 10 wives that looked like young supermodels who enjoyed frollicking through the gardens in their windy white dresses with huge smiles on their face. Those were the days.
It was exactly the same.
Difference is, for us, the old users who we got to know when we were fresh faced were still here, hence we think it had better users.
The things floating the boards at that time were of interest to us because we hadn't seen it all before, which now we have, hence threads were better.
Mods weren't as strict, except they were, just the ToU has been modified slightly since (I think).
But still... OT is stale now. But I seriously think it always was, you just grow tired of it.
I've been herre ever since 2007, and from then to now, it has been mostly the same. It is now a tad harder to come across an intersting thread some days, for for the most part, OT is still the same to me, and i still enjoy coming here.
There's already 'the board' which has some of the older users, why would they need to rebel when they have their own boards?then you vets should REBEL!!!
