Many people today believe that to be moral, you'd be against violence, killing, war, sexual content, ect., and I guess that's correct. But here's the question: Why then do many of these people play violent video games that involve sex and murder, or watch movies that are bloody and violent? Some games even drop you into World War II so that you can fight in combat. These are things that these people are against yet it is their entertainment. Granted, they are just games and are not real. But if you get entertained by shooting someone and taking their car in GTA, for example, isn't that being contradictory? What are your thoughts?

Morality is more based on your actions rather than simple thoughts. Most moral people are never really "pure" of mind, so to speak. Killing virtual people is not immoral because they are not real, like your thoughts and imaginations.

Sometimes your thoughts and imagination can show your "other side", though. Like, maybe you wouldn't do those things in real life, but if you enjoy doing them in a game, what does that say about your mind?

Usually when someone comits a crime, it is developed overtime. You don't just wake up one morning and say "You know, I think I'll murder someone today". It's something you get a desire for, and that desire starts in the head. Now, I'm not suggesting that violent games are the cause for crime today. But it is something to think about, or at least I find it interesting.

how is sex immoral? the main function of our existence is to procreate. sex is natural. video games are fine because it is not real. morality is about decisions you make regarding something that will actually effect another person. killing someone in a video game has no consequences.

Sex itself isn't immoral, but is sometimes used in crimes, and some religions believe sex without marriage is immoral.

thats religious leaders trying to get people to think the way that they want to. thats not personal morals, that is an outside influence telling you what is right or wrong. and shoot, most of them don't even follow that.. so many little boys are molested / raped by high ranking muslim and christian religious leaders, lesser so jewish ( at least to my knowledge but ive heard some cases)

Taking a mans life in the real world is very different from a fantasy one. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just ignorant. Need proof?

Everything is "natural" but assuming you mean biologically then a lot of these things are considered immoral.

Morals differ from person to person. Some people do not watch things with heavy violence or sexual content due to morals. Others have more laxed morals and do not take issue with watching or playing such things. People are able to differentiate between real life and movies or games. They do not condone doing these things in real life just because they enjoy the game.

Because they aren't against these things on principle, it's okay for them to indulge in them through fantasies.

I suppose it's a matter of separating fantasy from reality. In reality, a man that is killed is dead. He had a life; possibly a family, loved ones, etc. In a video game, they are pixels on a screen. They have no name, no life, nothing - they're reused character models that respawn constantly. Too many people confuse the two, which is where a lot of problems occur.

Age can be a factor as well. Children of a certain age aren't able to separate reality from fantasy, and some don't have a very ferm grasp on death. It depends on the child as well.

Because many people find it entertaining to enact a virtual fantasy of what they would find immoral in reality. Life =/= computer scripts. /thread
