If you were talking to some dude over the internet who was irritating the heck out of you and you told him "go kill yourself" (or such a phrase) and police found your conversation, could you be in trouble for assisting suicide?

It's possible, depending on the circumstances.
I recall that there HAS been a pretty widely publicized case in which someone mercilessly harrassed a girl and then told her to kill herself. Then she DID kill herself, and the person who told her to do it DID get in a lot of trouble. I don't know if the charges were dropped, or if the person was ever convicted. And that's a bit different, since this person was severely harassing her BEFORE telling her to kill herself. But bottom line is that the girl killed herself after being egged on to do it, and someone got arrested for it.
I guess it just depends on the details of the situation, but it's happened.
