Lady Gaga is officially taking over the world. She is just "Born This Way."

The University of Virginia is offering a course on Lady Gaga, titled Gaga for Gaga: Sex, Gender, and Identity.

Yes, We're totally serious…

The prerequisite for the course is an essay on how the star pushes social boundaries.

Students will listen to her music, watch her music videos, and also read about her influences on gender expression.

The university also offers a Harry Potter themed c/assArticle

Lulz. What are your thoughts on this?

Seems like a course I'd take. :D

I think she has some talent but that is ridiculous. Why waste funds on classes like that when there are much better singers who deserve it more than her like Ray Davies, Kristin Hersh, Tom Waits, or Frank Zappa? Universitys tend to only offer classes on popular subjects when it comes to music.

To attract students to their schools. I know a girl whose university created a Tolkien based class to retain her and a couple other graduate students.

I think shes ugly, OK I just said no-talent because I thought I wanted something to tie up the ugly part, Pokerface is one of the only modern songs that actually makes me move from side to side, I don't react to music in a physical way usually.

Alright, I get it. It just seems like a huge waste of money. I have seen so many ridiculous and unnecessary classes lately. It reminds me of pre-school.

How many people do you think would sign up for a class on those singers compared to a Lady Gaga class? Besides regardless of whether she deserves it, she's does provide an interesting subject that can be learned from.

Yeah a lot of people probably wouldnt care about the singers I mentioned. These universities need to make money and attract people to attend so a Lady Gaga class makes sense. It just seems a bit too soon since she has only made 2 albums.

I think the class is more about the meaning of her social impact, than strictly about her music.

In that case then they should have a class a Madonna or someone else who had more social impact. There are tons of singers who had more of a social impact than Lady Gaga, but again these universities need to attract students and if this is what it takes then so be it I guess.

I agree. This seems like a waste of money, they should just teach a whole class about that genre, not just her.

Yup, I agree, though I am not sure Universities need to attract more students. I know people who have been rejected from mine, and there is still never anywhere to park.

not really, i mean i respect ur opinion, but all she is really doing is singing over euro/ibiza trance beats and hiding behind the genre of pop. And most of the time she just takes classic songs and remixes them to an extent that we would not notice, alot of artist do that now days.

For this introductory course to argumentative essay writing, Romanosky chose the Lady Gaga theme to establish an engaging framework for critical analysis.

...

Often, ENWR classes choose off-the-wall topics such as Harry Potter or Lady Gaga to spice up what is usually seen as just another prerequisite. Or at least that's how first-year College student and Lady Gaga fan Evan Ayres saw it when he registered for classes this summer during first-year orientation.

"It's an interesting topic for what could be a very boring class," he said.

SourceThe Cavalier Daily

I hate these kinds of articles because it usually ends up being either a dull ****with a sensational name or not equivalent to actual college courses.

My University has a class on Harry Potter I think its fairly common for big schools to offer a few useless classes that just take up elective space :P I wouldn't take the class though cuz it would be a waste of my precious money, plus I'm a Gaga expert already.

It'd be interesting to sit in on the class at least once, but I doubt I'd actually spend money to enroll in it :P
