Hi, everyone, I'm a writer (got something published in a school magazine even) and I noticed I'm not the only one on this site. This is a thread to discuss writing in general. A few talking points:

1.Where do you get inspiration to write?

2. How do you overcome writers block?

3. What do you write?

Here are my answers.

1. I usually just see something that gives me an idea. For instance, I read the plot summary for a Silent Hill game, which gave me an idea for a story. (It turned out to be very different from SH.) Alot of the times I will have a dream or nightmare, and I will write a story about some aspect of those.

2. I just wait, and see if anything comes to me. If nothing does, I just move on to something else.

3. I mainly write horror short stories, although I am currently working on a post apcalyptic story. (Not sure how long it will be, because I'm not done.) My first story I shared with someone was 7 handwritten pages, so it was very short. However, the second one I wrote was well over 60 handwrittenpages. My typed ones are usually 20- 30 pages. Also, I once wrote a nonfiction short story about a camp I went to. I guess it would fall under the category of comedy, because everyone who read it laughed and said it was hilarious, especially people who were there.

Sorry about the wall of text. The above questions are just conversation starters, feel free to discuss anything about writing.

1. Any awesome things that pop into my head.

2. Chip away at the block until it crumbles into dust.

3. I write sci-fi stories that usually end with the universe ending which is actually something that Douglas Adams used to do in fact my writing style is a bit like Douglas Adams's writing style.

I would love to try writing stories in my blog but I don't want anybody to steal an idea if it's a good one.

I write opinions and reviews for games and movies, but I don't really write stories. I wrote and drew a handful of webcomics (had a nice little online following, too), but I haven't really had the time or inspiration to continue it.

My husband actually has a degree in creative writing. He mostly does screen plays and short stories, with political essays every now and then.

I would also post my work, but, like you, I don't want anyone stealing it. Also, I usually write stories with endings similar to yours, but obviously on a much smaller scale. A main character usually dies at the end.

I've written alot of reviews for games. The trick now is to get paid to do it! :)

Edit: That's pretty cool that you had an online web comic.

Being 14, I have a lot of other things to think about, but when an idea pops into my head, I make the best of it.

I had writer's block once, so I wrote a poem about it. :P

That poem thing... I know someone who had a similar poem. It was very well done.

I like to get inspiration from the masterpiece known as Twilight written by Stephenie Meyer. If you havent read it yet then you should pick it up. A very great series.

I write articles about how stupid the law is. They nearly always get published because the legal profession loves trolls. :P

When I was in high school I was obsessed with writing stories because of all the compliments I got in English class, so I was always dreaming up story ideas every waking second and spent loads of time writing stuff on my computer that no one ever saw. I look back on it now like a huge waste of time, beacuse it pretty much killed my social life.

1.From art, whether it's made by me or someone else. And I get inspired to make different works of art from raw emotion.

2. Music and I'll take breaks to play video games or go out with some people

3. mostly everything, stories, poems, obviously essays for schools, random articles etc etc.

oh, and TC are you in high school or college? because getting published in a high school literary magazine is(no offense) not that impressive.

1. I write about things that happen to me or I read. For example seeing Silent hill gave me the Idea of a guy who wakes up and he is alone in the world. No monsters, no postapocaliptic world. Everyone just banished. There was a songwriter and he wrote a song about how a horse ran the whole country. Later people knew that the song was really about him in a tour, and his car breaking every 3 miles . Thing is to get things and be able to do somethin with them 2. The easiest way. Leave things alone for a while and the moment you get something START TYPING AND DONT STOP. 3. I write fiction mostly. It goes to the magic realism area. PS/ I write regularly in my blog. IT is in spanish.. so I dont think it counts.

1. I typically go for a cruise and listen to music. I don't listen to the lyrics, but rather feel the tone of the song. I let the music invoke emotions that then play out into scenes in my mind.

2. I repeat the same process. It's the best way to get the juices flowing again.

3. I write some paranormal stories, but mostly just god awful depressing stories. Sometimes the stories end up being both.

With number 3, same here. I don't know if I've written a happy ending.

I haven't and I'm not sure I ever want to. It feels unnatural to most of my stories.

1. From stuff I see & experience in real life. Also from things in the world that piss me off. Prime example the Niger Delta oil spill. While everyone was making a big deal of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill like it's the worst ever oil spill, you'd think that the media would start to show more awareness on this topic. Boy was I wrong. I've made a leaflet and even wrote a couple articles about this but that ain't gonna do **** about the Niger Delta as I don't work for a paper so I can't raise awareness. I'm gonna stop now.

2. Reading news headlines & gaming. Then after the words seems to fly into my head and then I write furiously.

3. I write news articles, short stories, currently writing a script (Extremely long & boring). Going to start writing poems & rap lyrics.

1. From my data 2. I remember how screwed I'm going to be if it doesn't get written. 3. Scientific journal articles and theses (hey, you didn't specify whether this was for non-fiction or fiction authors)

1. An idea for a scene occurs to me. From there, I try to think of how I can piece it together. I also role-play on forums, so I can get character/development ideas from there.

2. I don't. It's a serious problem.

3. Some stupid stories and plays. None of which are finished, save for a musical (which could really use some revising)

Same here. It would seem like a fake hollywood ending if most of my stories ended happily. However, they don't want to be happy, and I don't make them that way.

1: I get my inspiration from my imaginary friend's imaginary friend. So I have to talk to my imaginary friend, then they talk to their imaginary friends. 2: I over come my writers block by building a tower out of wooden toy blocks, drop kicking it, then I try to read what the blocks on the floor are spelling out, and go from there. 3: I usually write about unicorns with jet packs that fart out double rainbows. Currently, I am working on a story about a T-Rex who is trying to get laid before the meteor hits.
