for starters.. do you believe gaming is holding you back.. in terms of freinds and just general socialising, going out, etc.?

i always thought okay whatever i have a couple good freinds and i just stayed inside on friday nights went on xbox live, maybe read a little bit

then due to pressure from family and people in my life who just thought gaming is stupid and all that, i went ahead and sold all of my gaming things, systems, accesories, and all that..

i actually ended up making a profit, but that isnt the point.. so what i did with some money was grab a bunch of clothes and other things like that, then what i noticed was once i gave up my gaming, i was better off socially

it was weird i didnt even know how it was happening, i dressed better and overall became a bit better in social situations.. it happened pretty fast too

so now a week after quitting gaming... i have 3 parties to attend this weekend.. and to tell you the truth, that could have been the best decision i ever made

before i was just a nobody, and now am apart of the most popular kids in school ( highschool senior )

and its kinda shallow really, how giving up "nerdy" activities and taking more pride in my appearance brings you such good things

well hey society is messed up and stupid... but im happy now

so in the end.. do you think that gaming is holding you back?

Social life>Gaming for me. I miss out on clan matches in COD4 to watch and play basketball games, as long as you don't spend hours upon hours each day playing games you're fine.

Gaming has always just been a hobby for me not a lifestyle. So its never really held me back.

Maybe i'm not hardcore enough, but gaming has never interfered in my social life, if i'm going out with my friend I'm going and playing a game isn't gonna stop me. And I already buy a good amount of clothing and shoe with my money.

If I weren't gaming I still wouldn't have a life, I'm just not a social person.

Gaming doesn't really get in the way of anything for me. It's just a hobby. I'm able to balance games, friends, family, school, and other hobbies pretty well.

I play maybe 15-20 hours a week right now. I also work 28 hours a week and go to class 10 hours a week. I have a 3.27 college GPA, am learning Lua, Java, DirectX and XNA. I also have been able to start writing screenplays, and I still manage to hang out with my friends a couple days a week.

Shallow, indeed.

I don't think gaming itself is holding people back; at least if you do it in moderation. If society is saying that gaming in general is stupid, then I think it's society's response to it that's part of the problem.

Well that really depends on person to person. I don't think you really needed to sell all of your games to really see the "light" in a social world... Because it has been there all along, and you could have gone there at any time if you had not been distracted.

For me, it's easy for me to maintain a social life, because I don't play video games all the time. I already would much prefer to be outside with people when I have the chance, than to throw that chance away so I could beat one more level on whatever game... For people like me, who enjoy video games on the occasion, is much harder for us to hold that image, because when you tell people you enjoy video games, they always jump to conclusion and stereotype you as some sort of nerd with no life (That's kinda where my username came from, stereotyping myself. It doesn't reflect myself at all, otherwise), and that can become bothersome.
