Why do my nips stiffen in the cold? Why don't they shrink into my chest, thus reducing surface area and conserving heat?
You sir is quite the thinker!Why do my nips stiffen in the cold? Why don't they shrink into my chest, thus reducing surface area and conserving heat?

I would kill for an opportunity to go submarine exploring in the depths of the ocean, to obverse those magnificent creatures first hand, to explore the vast unknown. Dammit, I'm tingling just thinking about it.What's truly in the oceans. Deep sea creatures absolutely fascinate me.

Bermuda Triangle IMO.

I live in Bermuda. Not only am I slightly offended, it's not even a real mystery. :P
For me, the biggest mystery is the purpose of the silent letter. I mean, really. Why the hell is there a 'k' in knife? And a 'p' in pterodactyl?
Why can't all people use our full brain capacity. I would imagine everyone would be super intelligent, crime would be almost nonexistant or maybe it would give us more abilities we would never have access to, like telekinesis or clarvoyance. I always wonder what our true abilities could be, if we have them innately to begin with.
Pretty easy to explain considering the triangle sits right on old trade routes during the colonial era. It's not really a mystery at all.Bermuda Triangle IMO.

Edit: For me it's probably consciousness. How does it arise, why does it arise, and why only for certain configurations of matter?

This seems like a sort of variation on the whole "we only use 10% of our brains" myth. And I've always thought that to be fairly ridiculous.
I mean, giving birth is DANGEROUS. Babies are born with RIDICULOUSLY big heads. If we truly only used a tiny-ass part of our brains, then it seems VERY weird to me that we'd evolve to have such big brains even though it poses such obvious risks. Baby's big-ass heads actually KILL both mothers and babies, so it seems very weird to me that we'd somehow evolve to have gigantic brains if most of those brains were doing absolutely nothing.
It very much seems to me that if we truly DIDN'T use most of our brains, that we wouldn't have so much brain.
[QUOTE="lancelot200"]How people act like idiots.surrealnumber5this
Shouldn't be too much of a mystery for anyone who has ever found themselves giving a BS excuse for stupid behavior.
I'm sure most people here have done silly stuff like done badly on a test and then given some BS excuse as to why they deserve to retake it. Or been late to work, and given a really dumbass BS excuse for why they weren't there. Anyone who's ever given a BS excuse has PROBABLY already acted like an idiot, or else they'd be giving a GENUINE excuse rather than a BS excuse. BS excuses are pretty much just attempts to cover up previous acts of idiocy.
And...almost everyone is gonna find themselves doing that at some point. At that point, it shouldn't be much of a mystery. Because once you find that you've screwed yourself into such a bad situation that you have to make up BS in order to get out of it, then you've sort of ALREADY admitted that you'd previously "acted like an idiot". At that point, the normal thing is to ask onesself, "man...what the hell was I thinking?" One then comes up with an answer to that question and says, "I'm never going to do THAT again."
Of course, people often then DO still continue to do it. But the mystery here isn't idiocy. The mystery is how people can identify the ways in which they've been acting like idiots, and still continue to do the same freaking thing.
