I stupidly stole a £10 pound note from the somerfield supermarket that I work at.. its a big store and I got a call today about 'something important' on my answering machine. I am assuming the worst thinking its about the money.. but if it is what is the worst they can do? If it is just £10 surely they won't press charges. And please dont just say that i shouldnt've done it in the first place.. because I know that.

They have the right to fire you on the spot as it's gross misconduct. I think they can even fire you in the middle of your shift if they want to.

I like how the topic said "Accused of stealing" and then it turns out that you actually stole.

Well played, my friend. :)

Edit: Also, you would not make a good defense attorney.  Just sayin'.

Never go back there again and run away. Move to a different country and start a new life. That's what I would do (jp). I wouldn't be able to steal money where I work.(ToyRus time square NY) I have around 300 cameras around the store all of which are constantly monitored.

Seriously. I never understood the idiots that steal from their work (or anyone for that matter) and only take a couple of bucks because they think they won't get caught.

The 'fun' of stealing is the thrill...so saying he shouldn't be allowed back in society is harsh and unreasonable...

lol deported for stealing 10 pounds. That is what we call in America "cruel and unusual punishment".

Seriously, man...be reasonable. Stealing stuff is very thrilling, just like gambling. When I was 12 my friend and I would steal Penthouses from Barnes and Noble.

Was it wrong? Yes. Have I ever stolen anything since then? Well, maybe a cig off my roommates...but no, never have I stolen anything else. Was it fun and rewarding at the time? Yes.

People make mistakes, and if he loses his job he is getting an appropriate punishment.

But banishment?

RIF, genius. I suppose you saw "lol deported..." and just stopped reading. Way to get the whole point of my argument.

With that said, fine...you didnt mean deportation. But you said banned and not let back into society. That can mean a lot of things including deportation, banishment, jail, etc. Going to jail forever is still cruel and unusual.

Either way, lighten up man...people do stupid stuff all the time, even you. Fortunately most of us are nice enough to be understanding of other people's mistakes, unlike you.

There is a big difference between being falsely accused of something and being rightfully accused of something.

They probobly just want to ask you if you have any idea where the money went.  You can either play ignorant or own up to what you did.

Do what you see fit, I am not a big fan of crime myself however.

Yeah, you're pretty much screwed. Supermarkets are littered with CCTV and shops have a zero tolerance on stuff like this. The thing is they have CVs stacked high of people just ready to replace you.

Why steal £10? That's like 2 hours work.

Well now there's a life lesson for you. If you do get fired, you will then have to tell your other interviewers (when applying for a new job) that you stole from your previous job. That sucks big time.

if you're brave enough to do the crime be brave enough to face the consequences. i hope you really needed it because i don't see how it would have been worth losing your job over it. be happy if the 10pounds didn't buy you a suite at an minimum security holding facility.

This is what will really hurt him. He could have gotten another remedial job anywhere but as a thief he now will have problems getting a job for the rest of his life unless he lies on his applications (which I wouldn't put past him).

ok some of you guys are taking this too far... as I expected with some of the members here quick to point any problem to death or end of your life as you know it... It is a part-time job, I am 17 and I only work on thursday and saturday. If I do get fired other employers never have to know that I once had a job at somerfield...

And to those curious about the outcome I need to call them tommorow to see what is going on.. I dont even know if it is about the money... as I said I was assuming the worse. And I needed the tenner for going out on saturday.. of course that was an idiotic decision but past is the past.. its allready happened.

ill keep you posted

By British law, if you're convicted of an offense you must declare it whenever you apply for another job as well as some other things (mostly travelling abroad).
