ok, so im a 15 year old sophmore high school student, with A.D.D., and i need help......badly

around middle school i was having trouble in school so i got an ADD test and i was diagnosed, so i at first took riddelin (sp) and other pills, and it really didnt help and so i got off that stuff and i have been working and such ever since. Then high school comes, and i am struggling hard (not paying attention, paying attention but not understanding stuff, if u have ADD then u might know what i mean). My parents are constantly angry and pissed about my grades (very supportive, but they piss me off a lot and stuff), and they have completely forgotten that i have ADD. They think im not applying myself and that i just want to play videogames (i only play so cuz it helps me forget about how my bad life is). I have tried to remind them about my diagnosis, but they just say its an excuse. At this rate, im not even gonna finish high school unless a ****ing miracle happens, and i dont know that to do, seriously, the rest of my life it at stake and.... im putting it in the hands of a GS forum

u can ask me questions about my current situation, or give advice

plzz i dont know what to do

thx in advance

A friend of mine has ADHD. He used to take ritalin for it but now there's no need. He isn't hyperactive anymore and his mind doesn't wonder. By the looks of it, ADD/ADHD tend to play a lesser role in your life as you grow.

Ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist, maybe someone who you can talk to.

Don't become too reliant on prescription drugs, always read the possible side-effects and take them extremely seriously. Some drugs taken in the long run can leave you more ****** up and dependent than you ever were before.

Like what?

Ask for a later curfew or change your diet?

You have something wrong with you, you find a specialist and then if they're not good enough you get a second opinion from ANOTHER specialist. If you really do have something wrong then you really do need to find a way to fix it.

This is the whole reason for doctors, just make sure they have the correct diagnosis

A lot of famous and successful people have ADD.

I have ADD and I do just fine. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, you don't have it that bad.

Let me tell you this now, you're life isn't that bad. But disregarding that, I would say this to your parents:

"I know my grades have been bad lately, but if I want to get better grades, I should probably get a personal tutor so I can work on the things that I'm getting bad on. Not to blame my ADD, but I think that we should go back to the Doctor's office so that way he can speak with us about getting some proper ADD treatment, and maybe getting some conventional medicine. I play the video games so it can sort of "take the edge" off of all the stress I have. I hope you can understand that."

Then it'll lead to this long conversation, blah, blah, blah, and then they'll ask what you think, and where you stand on the grades issue, and know this now: Grades count a lot, so make the effort. It's important that you show that you are trying to make an effort, and regarding ADD, if you have good medicine, and probably a strong want to do good, you will probably get what you need.

I'm not saying that ADD is an excuse or anything. But nobody even heard of ADD back in the 60s 70s and 80s, when our generation of parents were in school.

I honestly think that ADD is total BS (and I've been diagnosed with it) and if it isn't BS they over diagnose it. I think it is sort of a default diagnosis for any kid that comes in their office asking what's wrong.

then again I actually have Bipolar.

That's so true! But then again, they thought that CFC's were good, that Metal was good, that Hippies were good, and that people shouldn't work for a living. (Hippies again.)

It is BS. I have been diagnosed, and they haven't given me ANY pills, and I'm getting all A's, all honors classes! (And AP science.)

Yeah well those hippies and the 70's metal such as Led Zeppelin produced some of the best music of all time.

Not to get off subject or anything, but you can't possibly tell me that today's music is better.

I HATE today's music, I only listen to classical. I hope I don't get reported for getting off topic, but in my opinion, classical is the best, rock and roll next, then metal (down at the bottom) and THEN our currnet emo/drugs/weird crud songs.
