Anyone else feel this way? Almost 7 times out of 10 when I'm listening to music lyrics online or a trailer, a pesky ad comes up and ruins the flow.

Anyone else have these annoying experiences?

Yeah I really see no idea how some advertisements like that even generate money. Some advertisements are neatly placed though. For example the Sprint Evo ad on GS. No sound and you see an awesome looking phone.

If an advertisement for a product or service annoys me to a certain point I make a vow to myself never to purchase what's being advertised.

They don't happen to me a lot. Youtube has the ones that pop up on the video screen, but those are about all I see anymore. :/

If anything, they probably make me hate the company more.

If the people making the product think they're effective enough to give me the entertainment I want for free, I love them. Of course, too many means I'll just stop going their entirely. I've stopped going to hulu at all after using them as one of my top sources of entertainment for a year or so. They've just gotten too many loud ads.

They actually don't bother me that much, I mostly just watch trailers for movies, games etc. and they only last 30 seconds.

Ineffective, TC. Not unaffective. And they don't bother me that much. The websites need to make money somehow and it's not like I can't simply check out something in another tab.

They're certainly ineffective on me.

  • Example 1: I listen to a lot of music on YouTube. I try to put unofficial/user-uploaded movies in my playlists, as the official ones are often preceeded by noisy commericals.
  • Example 2: I used to go to this site, confusedmatthew.com, for movie reviews. I basically stopped going, because I got sick to death of the ads before every video.
  • Example 3: I got so annoyed at the noisy, obnoxious ads for Borderlands on GameTrailes, that I vowed never to buy the game.

We have a lot of Firefox users on here and I presume these Firefox users have AdBlock Plus installed. Doesn't it block those advertisements?

It doesn't block ads in the video player which is what I think he's talking about. Blocking the video player would mean you don't get to see your VDO.

It blocks them on GameTrailers, though. I clearly remember that. The video advertisements at the beginning of every video would be gone and I could watch what I wanted to watch straight away.

I don't go to game trailers so I can't comment on that. I'm a PC gamer and they hate PC games.

Example, please. I like GameTrailers but I like PC gaming too although I unfortunately have not ascended to being one yet.

I actually work for an advertising company that creates and publishes these advertisements that appear before videos and i can tell you that they are far from 'unaffective'. In fact the are VERY affective.

They don't review most PC games. Look for instance at Civilization IV...huge popular game, no review. Just user reviews. Hell they still list the IL2 Sturmovik 1946 release date as TBA and I've had that game for years. World in Conflict got no review...huge popular game. No Review for Medieval 2 Total War...huge popular game. Hell, they didn't even review WoW.

Seriously, they hate PC gaming.

They must.
