I went to college and had a nervous breakdown the 1st semester due to high levels of stress to get grades... I was forced to withdrawal and might go back in the summer... Would it be wise to go back or go to community college because i did not feel prepared and now I am having all types of problems.. I had this breakdown/anxiety attack because of a public speaking class and I went to JMU any advice for me????

Maybe education isn't for you? If you can have anxiety attacks from what I would consider a general education class, then you might have some other disorder. I mean, I know a lot of people hate public speaking, but college is stressful.

I guess I have to ask, was it because of that class by itself, or because of the whole experience? If it was just because of the class, try taking a major that doesn't make you speak in front of people (or in my case, a major that suggests you DON'T talk to other people). If it's required for the college, try a university or something. My university didn't make my take anything like that.

If anything there is more pressure on grades in community college because you are going to transfer and you are competing with other people(High school all over again) I choose community college because 1. it's cheaper 2. One of the best community colleges in the country is 5 minutes from my house but community college isn't that much different from "real" college...Maybe go back to school part-time, at least for a semester.

Here's some advice. Ask your parents, or your minister, or a counselor for advice, not a bunch of videogame players.

im in my fourth year and i know exactly what you mean. My friend, after alot of bad times, difficulties, depression...you name it, i came to the conclusion that its all in your mind. Take things easy, work hard and take good advantage of your time. Enjoy yourself, and dont not overwork yourself. Ignore others and do things your way. i highly recommend not pulling out already, it seems hard, but its certainly doable and rewarding eventually.

If you couldn't get through your first semester because you were working your ass off, I don't think college is for you. Its all easy classes and if you can't handle that there is no way you will be able to handle the advanced classes from the major you choose. Join the Army.

If going to community college means it's going to be less stressful for you then you migth want to go that route. Nonetheless, you should really to find out what the root of the problem is and take steps towards coping with it.

how about you don't worry about your GPA... in todays job market experience is much better than grades. Unless you're going to grad school, or don't have anything else on your resume gpa won't be a deciding factor.

Jr college sounds like a good baby step to help you ease into transfering, but from the people I talk to that have went to jr college it's not as academic as 4 year school. Pretty much just a low budget post high school facility.

I would try a community college since it is cheaper. then if you feel like you are ready go ahead and go back to the University.

Heres advice.... don't waste you'r time doing work, work, and more work... chill with some friends and go to some parties (play some beer pong/KEGSTAND) and just chill out.

If taking public speaking class is the reason you are having problem, then take it later on once you have a few semesters under your belt. By then you should be use to college life and should be able to handle it better

If you are just having general anxiety because you are not use to college life in general, you can try:

- join some social groups

- if you are living at dorm, participate at dorm activities. Help you get to know more people in your immediage surroundings and taking similar courses

- move back home while going to school, if school is close to your house

- talk to school counselor. I believe every school has the service for free and they should be well equipped in helping you

that sounds like social anxiety if it's public speaking.

I do this. I dont work to get great grades, I work only to the best of my ability. if that means a 95, awesome. if that means a 61, awesome. friend of mine who is in his third year of college had a grade average of about 50% his first year. I wouldnt sweat it.

See a school counselor to help you cope. JMU is just around the bend from me, i know it can be a stressful place. but you've just gotta take it step by step.
